I know everyone on this website thinks of Larry Csonka when they think of the term 'power back.' The guy is legendary for hurting people, running over tacklers and knocking people on their *****. He was a mean guy and he punished people when he ran the ball. Don Shula says that Csonka is the only offensive player to ever get flagged for unnecessary roughness after he pushed a guy towards the end of a play and sent him flying.

That's why I was so surprised to see that NFL Network's countdown of the top 10 power backs had him ranked fourth. Fourth! Can you believe that? You're probably wondering who was ahead of him. Jim Brown was first, which is understandable given the way he played and his role in NFL history. Earl Campbell was third and his whole career was practically a highlight reel.

Who was number two? John Riggins.

I'm only twenty years old. I missed out on all of these guys but I'm a huge football fan and I think I know quite a bit about the game's history. John Riggins -- who averaged 3.9 yards per carry over his career, only made one pro bowl and IS NOT in the hall of fame -- ahead of Larry Csonka? Come on. Am I just being a homer in thinking Csonka should be ahead of Riggins and probably even Campbell? I want to hear what some of you guys who saw both play think.

just cuz ur a phinfan and he was a fin doestn mean he should be number 1.

Czonka was a better power back in his prime than Riggins, its just that his prime got messed up by the WFL and ending up with the giants.

I would say

Jim Brown
Earl Campbell
Larry Csonka

i think jim brown is righfully there but i see more runners that are more known as just a poser back before a guy like csonka, he had lots of power but he was also very balanced, i say use the pure power guys first in the list b4 csonka

Larry Czonka is the main reason I became a Dolphin fan. My dad and uncle use to go to Syracuse University to watch this All-American play...This guy without a doubt was as tough as they came...WOW-POWER.....He had speed, power, natural toughness.....just watchsome highlights...guys were to afraid to tackle him.....My vote is #1 !!!!

power

Didn't go & look at the list, but as far as power backs go & moving a pile it's got to be.

Current - Brandon Jacobs - A beast.
Past - Christian Okoye - could you imagine seeing that guy coming at you full speed. To bad he wasn't around that long.

I know everyone on ....

Man, how embarassing. I actually only looked him up on wikipedia (first one to come up everytime) and there's no mention of him in the Hall. I stand corrected.

I watch a lot of America's Game and some of the guys on his own team made it sound like he was just ok but turned it on during the playoffs, which is a good quality to have but Csonka was on all the time.
