The Dolphins are about to fight the union over their unfair treatment of Daunte. They need to swallow their pride and let the guy go!

Big deal. His team rep already said the Phins haven't violated any rules.

Sorry, but your hero is done in Miami, get over it.

He's over it - he wants Daunte to be released.

And you think Feely is some expert on the CBA? He's the team rep - with his first year on the team after signing a nice contract for a kicker. You think he's gonna make waves with management over this?

I'm sure the NFLPA lawyers are a little more familiar with the nuances of the CBA and the law.

Even so, Berthelsen said the contention by the union will be that a team can't hold a player and bar him from working out just to protect their rights to trade him.

"Under the provisions of the standard player contract, players are compelled to stay in excellent physical condition and be ready for the season," Berthelsen said. "How do you do that? By practicing with the other players on the team. If the team will not allow him to practice because they don't want to be liable for his contract, the team should release him. They can't keep exclusive rights to you just because they think you're worth a draft pick."

I can see why Daunte thinks the Dolphins are mistreating him. He has been in a bad situation since arriving in Miami. I don't know who pushed for Daunte to come back so soon and we probably never will. Either way it was the writing on the wall as far as Dante's Dolphin tenure. We did give up a lot to
get Daunte and as a business the Dolphins want to get something for him.
I think they will trade him and that Daunte will report to that team. If they
don't do this before the next Dolphin practice they will be making a mistake
and should let him go. I actually feel bad for Daunte but the Dolphins have
a business to run and a team to get ready. As far as a case for the nflpa...
I don't think they can stop him from going to practice and practicing if
he so chooses. I think Daunte went out there to prove a point and that he
has no more interest in taking a chance on getting hurt than the Dolphins
want him to. I would imagine something will soon.

I just don't understand why the Dolphins shouldn't keep him and shop him around. Why shouldn't they get the most they can for him as they would any other player? Isn't that their responsibility to the future of their franchise?

As for Daunte. I have really appreciated his solid contribution over all those exciting games he played in. His contribution will never be forgotten.

Does anyone have his stats for last year? What was his QB rating?

Daunte could be playing right into Randy's hand. If Miami were to release him now and he didn't get picked up because he couldn't clear another teams medical then he could file for injury compensenation. But if he goes through with this grievance then his case would be severally hampered.

I really think Daunte shold step back and hire an agent. He is in a very difficult situation and should have someone who is less emotionally involved making the decisions on how to play it.

No the team does not have to let any player practice during these early mini camps and the fact of the matter is that helping his physical condition and to prepare for the season by letting him run and work out at the dolphins training facilities.

He can practice, those reps are just limited to avoid possible injury. ANd he's still rehabbing and has full access to the weight room. I mean there is obviously some limits, but he's a grown man, rehabbing from injury and may be dropped or moved from the team. Get over it.

From what I've seen, he took himself out of drills in practice. Plus he's got access to all the facilities, and is rehabbing there, so there is no case. One of two things are going on here. Either Daunte is really as "thick" as we've heard, or he's just trying to turn up the heat on Mueller any way he can.

I feel the same way. I really can't figure out why big name guys want to represent themselves. So what if the agent gets 5-10% of your contract...a good agent will usually more than make up for that.

Yes he should or he shouldn't have taken the job. The NFLPA is just going through the motions. The part they are arguing is a huge stretch and left open to a lot of interpretation.

Well yes they can. He just got clearance to practice. The Dolphins can easily say they are taking it slow with him and that he's the 5th QB right now which doesn't leave much of a chance for snaps anyways.

How exactly did Culpepper take himself out of drills in practice?

Culpepper, who was told earlier this week that he was not a part of the team's plans, left the field after coaches informed him that he would not be allowed to take part in practice.

Rather than stand around, Culpepper said, he went inside to continue rehab of his right knee. And he said that is what he'll continue to do until he is traded or released.

Daunte can file as many greivances as he wants-it's not going to go anywhere since Miami hasn't done anything wrong. The simple fact is situations like this aren't as black and white as the little Daunte lovers would make it out to be. Things like this are handled case-by-case, period. Miami is allowing him to remain in shape for the season by allowing him to use their facilities, and that's all they're required to do.

You guys seem to be forgetting the Terrell Owens situation during his last year with the Eagles. They barred him from all of the team activities, but were required to still allow him to train on their facilities, which they did, and that was about as subjective of a situation as you can get since they basically refused to allow him to play because of his behavior, and the NFLPA supported the Eagles.

Considering Miami paid him $8 million last year and the only thing they're trying to avoid this year is paying him whilst injured...again...then the odds of Upshaw somehow forcing Miami to enable Daunte evem more than they already have are between slim and none. You're simply clueless if you think otherwise.

The best part is Daunte the super agent is finally requesting a formal trade, which he should've done months ago, and a deal with another team could be jeopardized since there's a possible tampering violation, which would be hilarious, imo.
