keep an open mind. Nick is a winner....

he inherited this mess (Thanks Wanny!!). Next year will be a LOT different. it will resemble more of his personnel. notice his Free Agent signings this yr were mostly to 1 yr deals...

'05 - 6-10 / 7-9
'06 - 9-7/10-6 content for wild card
'07 - 13-3 AFC East Division / 1st Round bye = GREATNESS!!

you heard it here--

You know it's Sunday when all of the positive posts start coming out after a week of bashing. He's a rookie NFL coach who will his share of mistakes and will be criticized for them (as does every coach when they make a mistake). He's got a lot to prove in this league but it's still to early to declare him a failure or a success. I believe he'll do great things for us!

i hope we just win today. We are playing the saints.they have the 26th ranked rushing defense.

unfortunately it's not about this yr. if we overachieve this yr, we will be 8-8 maybe 9-7. doesn't look likely w/a backup qb starting for us. and no 1st string qb on the roster.

Sometimes mistakes are the results of taking chances when you have no other/limited options. What would you, at this point, label as Saban's mistakes? He inherited a depleted roster and did what he could to fill spots. There is no personnel move that he has made that will hinder him in the future. Ricky Williams? Can be traded or cut, no cap hit really. This year Saban should get a free pass. Let the man figure out what he's got and what he needs. If we do poorly, then let's enjoy the high draft picks for one more year. Sometimes teams have to go thru this. We haven't been this bad for 35 years, and honestly, are emotionally ill-equipped to handle it. We have never seen our team truly re-build from the ground up, and we don't know 1st hand (emotionally) what it entails. We need to endure the lumps and we will get better. Saban knows how to build a program. Let's let him do it. It can't be done in one year.

POST OF THE WEEK.........even tho its hard to swallow, we have to look to the future and build a better team and we now have the staff to do it....Kudos to Bobkins for the realities............

excellent observation. saban is a winner!!!

I love Saban and think he will be an excellent coach for many years.

I just wish he wasn't so stubborn with the QB position that's all.

i'm sure Linehan is chiming in re the QB position too. Obviously he pushed for Gus to come here. So I'm sure that's factoring into it. He may get yanked today if he sux it up. very curious to see what Lemon's all about.

We all new this would be a long process and would take a lot of patience. Saban did not inherit a deep and well stocked roster and sure didn't have the resources to bring in all the players we needed. Its frustraiting to be at the position we are in but sometimes its inevitable especially when a team has gone through a period of mismanagement and confusion like the Dolphins have. Its easy to point fingers and set back, second guess and critisize but I can't imagine actually being in that position to make the important decisions that could make or break a teams future. IMO Saban has a good football mind and now with another good football mind onboard with Mueller the future looks bright, we just have to have patience.

Mistakes of a rookie NFL HC:

1. Not having offensive balance
2. Not putting the ball in the hands of your best offensive players
3. Throwing 2 consecutive passes w/ a quarterback who had a 40% completion pct. on 2nd and 1 and 3rd and 1.
4. Allowing the Bucs to run the same slant routes over and over again without adjusting to the routes.

I think it's very ironic how we praised Saban when this team won and talked about what a great coach he is and began to talk about the great things he's done and how he's winning w/ Wanny's players blah, blah, blah... yet when we started to lose a very winnable game vs. Buffalo now it's not Saban's fault. It's the player's fault and the lack of talent. The same talent that we won with the previous 2 times. NEWS FLASH!!!! SABAN IS NOT GOD!!!! I wholeheartedly believe that Saban will be a good coach for us but if you're going to sit here and tell me that he hasn't made any mistakes and that his mistakes are due to the talent on our team then you're drinking the Kool Aid. He's a rookie NFL head coach with a lot of talent and with a bright future but he's no BB or Parcells as many here suggest. He's not perfect. He's learning. I'm not labelling him a bust but I'm also not going to call him a great coach yet. It's still too early. IT'S NOT A SIN TO CRITICIZE THE COACH AND POINT OUT THE TRUTH!

I've preached this from day one.

Have patience. Nick will make us DOMINANT in the future.
I agree, he is a winning coach that took over from a loser coach. Time will tell.

Great post Bopkin, well said.

pf '03, all of your points can be completly covered by the first line of Bopkins post. I happen to believe it's true. His is trying to execute a gameplan and the personnel aren't up to the task. He is learning what parts of this plan need to be addressed, I am sure he finds it as depressing as we do. We should all be grateful we have a plan....
