No, not CB, Nose Tackle in Round 1
QB-Nick Saban and Randy Mueller believe in finding a quarterback later in the draft, not in the first round. Think Saints, Aaron Brooks, Jake Delhoumme, Adrian McPherson-Saints took these guys in later rounds. Also, look at Saban's mentor, Bill Belichek, he got Tom Brady in round 5. As much as I'd love to have Jay Cutler, I don't think it will happen unless he falls to Round 2.
OT-Whitworth will be a Round 1 pick. He will not fall to Round 2.
CB-Saban originally drafted Daniels to be a safety-he is not fast and agile enough to be a CB. It's just that Poole got injured, so Daniels was kept at CB.
So, I have just said that we have three huge needs at QB, OT, and CB, and I believe these will be addressed in Rounds 2-4.
But, what we do in round 1 is draft a Nose Tackle. Our current nose tackle is going to 37 next year! Saban believes that you must stop the run. Last year, we were near the bottom in run defense. That was Saban's first priority in the offseason bringing in D lineman Kevin Carter, Vonnie Holliday, and Keith Traylor. This year our run D is near the top and that is why we have a successful Defense. Look at New England, they draft D-lineman in the first round, Richard Seymour, nose tackle Vince Wilfork. Saban will follow Bellichek's model. He will draft D-lineman. Remember in the 3-4, Manuel Wright is a DE, we dont have a nose tackle besides Traylor. We need a nose tackle, that is the heart of the 3-4. The reason for the Cowboys success in the 3-4, bringing in nose tackle Jason Ferguson. In games that we won this year, we stopped the run, and our opponents had long third downs.
In conclusion, we will draft, Haloti Ngata, the 345 pound nose tackle out of Oregon. There is one other Nose tackle available in Gabe Watson from Michigan, but he doesnt have the drive nor motor that Ngata has. So, where will be drafting in the 8-12 spots, Ngata will be the perfect fit.
