Adam Schefter is reporting this.

And then Goodell and the NFL will have one other notable decision to make before focusing on other matters. In the next week, the league is expected to announce its decision on whether Miami's suspended running back, Ricky Williams, is being reinstated.

Williams was suspended over a year ago for a full season after failing his fourth drug test.

While the league prepares to announce its verdict, it's not as if the Dolphins are anxious for the decision.

During the 2007 draft, the Dolphins invested a third-round pick on Florida State running back Lorenzo Booker. As if that weren't enough of an indication the Dolphins were preparing to move on, they then gave Williams' locker to Booker.

Dolphins head coach Cam Cameron has not discussed Williams, nor reached out to him, something that former Miami head coach Nick Saban did. Right now, Williams is not on the Dolphins' radar screen. If he gets reinstated -- and the decision will be handed down in the next seven days -- then he will have to be.

But right now, based on the body of evidence the Dolphins have presented, it's hard to envision a scenario under which Williams is back in Miami next season.

thanks for the info, still hopeing rickey gets a shot still has 2 or 3 good years left

Dont see what we gain by getting rid of Williams.
Mueller and Cameron get rid of a story that has followed Miami since July 2004. Ricky dominates the headlines and it is not always good headlines. They seem to be getting rid of the attention seekers and players who have off the field problems. I doubt they will just release him outright, but I expect them to trade him(Rams most likely) for a 5th or 6th round pick in 08'.

I'm still not sure why so many people think draft Booker means the end of Williams. There's room on the roster for 3 HB's. There was when Ricky was on the team with Brown and Minor. Not that I don't think they will get rid of him, as it seems Mueller isn't his biggest fan, but I don't see it happening because we drafted Booker.

Though Ricky Williams is eligible for immediate reinstatement, the NFL is proceeding slowly on the matter while still regularly drug-testing him. The Williams camp doesn't expect a ruling until closer to June. GM Randy Mueller last week again declined to say if the team wants Williams back, and he hasn't informed Williams, either. The Dolphins say not to read into the fact his locker was given to Lorenzo Booker, though that raised eyebrows.

Closure. The Ricky Williams era in Miami has done nothing but leave bad feelings, unfufilled promise and losing, out of the playoffs seasons.

At some point, you have to let him go elsewhere and wash your hands of him. He has loads of talent but has cost Miami multiple first round draft picks, money and arguably games and one season. I don't care how talented he is at this point. Miami needs to move on and away from Ricky Williams.

He is more trouble than he is worth.

If cam and mueller are so set on getting rid of Ricky they should atleast trade him to another team for something rather than cutting him for nothing. We know the rams are interested.

It's silly to let him go. For the price we'll be paying him, you'd rather have some other untested, unknown RB on the depth chart? Like him or not, it's a luxury the Dolphins will have by having him on the team. Plus, if he has a decent year, and shows that he's still got it, we could trade him next year for a better draft pick than a sixth rounder.

i just don't see the Dolphins bringing back Ricky Williams

and it's a shame too

yeah he's burned us once, twice

but come on, it's Ricky. he's one of our guys and we're married to him for life

but with all the turnover and cuts made during the offseason

all signs point to Cam Cameron not welcoming him back :(

i do think he will come back but i don't think he'll be the starter or be the running back he used to be, hes around 30 now and historically RBs that are around 30 do not do that well. Also towards the end of last year once the o-line began to gell Ronnie was running all over the place (when he was healthy)

That paragraph doesnt means squat.

Those two points, the locker and Lorenzo Booker have no bearing on weather Williams comes back.

If Williams didnt play in the NFL last year why would he have a locker in the Dolphins locker room.

Do you think they encased his old locker in glass like a shrine until Ricky's return?

Now Booker was drafted but that doesnt guarantee a roster spot he still has to make the team.

Booker has already been projected as a 3rd down back and a kick returner.

If Booker makes the team maybe he will eventually earn the backup spot but he's not better than Ricky Williams.

I agree completely.

Couldn't have put it better myself. I can't wait until Ricky is somebody else's problem!
