Penalties, Penalties, Penalties.....

How come no one is talking about them???

We had lots of penalties in pre-season, we had lots of penalties against the Broncos (even though we won), and we had lots of penalties last night...

WTF is going on here??? Does Saban need to come down on these guys harder??????

Mental mistakes are killing us....HECK, last night we started off with a penalty...Jason Taylor jumped offsides after a wonderful start for us....that fumble by Pennington could have changed the outcome of the game...Who knows, maybe the fumble would've got to Pennington's head....but instead it was a free play... :shakeno:

I was shocked to see one of our veterans make a penalty like that...

Then, you have Channing Crowder, who out of frustration throws the WR out of bounds after the play was over and helps with the field position....WTF! the play was over, no need for that, especially when we're losing....

We can't win alot of games if we keep shooting ourselves in the foot like this....that's were everything starts.

That's a good point. The penalties have repeatedly cost us field position on offense. The OL needs to tighten up, and start paying attention to detail. There were several situations yesterday where a penalty ended our chances.

There's no excuse for those IMO. We take care of them, and it's a differnent ball game. I think the key to yesterday's loss was letting the Jets open up the scoring. That, along with missing our FG opportunity in the first....

PHINZ RULE!!!

Seems to me like our best players are the ones causing penalties.... like Taylor and our Receivers.... just trying to get get a head start on the ball. But what can you do? their the best players we have.

I think our D got a penalty called on them the first 5 plays of the game. Which allowed the Jets to drive down and score. A couple of them were good calls a couple should have not been called.

My view on JT's penalties is that yes, he gets the offsides call against him occasionally but for the most part he fires off just in time & really pressures the QB and/or gets the sack. I'll accept his occassional offsides. He doesn't get the calls because laziness or lack of concentration.

i dont expect JT to have offsides penalties in 2 straight weeks. Intensity shouldnt come at the sacrifice of playing smart

I agree. The two against Denver was not as costly, however, it could have sustained Denver drives when the game was still close, and the one against the Jests nullified a fumble/loss of yardage that we could have taken full advantage of.

I think the penalties tie mostly to the OL..the agressive type penalties (like Crowders) we don't need but do happen...the false starts, illegal shifts, wrong guy on the end of the line/illegal formation, and holding on the line guys must improve if we are to improve...our O is just not good enough or talented enough to continue to shoot itself in the foot like that. Illegal block in the back is another killer penalty that we have too many of...

On another note, one of these times, Saban is going to bust loose on some OL/TE/WR who has one of these type of "mental" mistakes and it'll be fun to watch...I'm sure the camera will be on him...personally, it may be what the team needs to have happen...

Of course, he could also change the lineup again and bench the main culprit of stupid penalties from the previous week to get his point across...

exactly... Abraham was just as effective without jumping offside. JT knows better.. he'll correct it.

He will.

The penalties reflect a lack of discipline...a real irony when you consider that discipline is the foundation of a Saban coached team. I trust that proper discipline will come in time, but it has to be the most frustrating aspect of this team.

Good point Predaphin. I was just going to post on this subject. Is it just me, ever since Shula penalities seem to be part of our downfall. That offside penalty on Taylor hurt us. Is there anything that can be done about these penalities.

Penalties will kill us

I know that people have talked about how the Phins need to cut down on the penalties, but I just looked at the numbers and they are frightening. Penalties in the past three games have gone like this:

Phins 11 for 69 yards, Broncos 7 for 73 yards
Phins 10 for 88 yards, Jets 5 for 40 yards
Phins 13-138 yards, Panthers 4-39

So the Phins are averaging 11 penalties for 98 yards and our opponents are 5 for 51. This is not good and eventually will force us to lose a lot more games than we will win. Most of the penalties I see are total lack of focus and should be easily corrected, but so far, the trend shows that they are going up.

the only good thing i think was that these weren't all the false starts and holdings of the Oline, it was mostly in the secondary... which still isn't good, but it shows that we are fixing the kinda of penalties that hurt us the first 2 games

think we had 2 false starts and 2 oline holding penalties... still would like to have no false starts at our own damn stadium, but hopefully they will continue to improve there...
