Perloff's view on Ginn

This team's most glaring need is not quarterback. It's lack of offensive speed. Running back Ronnie Brown is lumbering. No. 1 receiver Chris Chambers has decent speed but averaged just 11.5 yards per reception last year. And No. 2 receiver Marty Booker is a possession guy. The Dolphins need to do something to keep defenses from stacking up against the run.

I guess he missed the KC play.

Yeah, but isn't that like the ONLY play he ever broke away on? I love Ronnie, but he does not have break away speed, someone always catches up with him. The only reason the Chiefs didn't get him in that game is because he ran them all over either behind or at the line of scrimage....:D

The guy has five very valid points. Ronnie Brown isn't a necessarily a huge break away threat, but I'd hardly call him LUMBERING. But he is right about the overall team speed. Our offense as a whole was lethargic and needed a serious infusion of speed. With Booker and Ginn, the offense got A LOT faster and quicker. And I like this part, which is what people seem to have forgotten:

Coming into last season, Ginn was generally thought of as a potential top-10 pick and he did nothing last year to hurt his stock before the injury.

What, are you kidding me? One of those plays a couple of years ago he didn't go all the way because he pulled up lame. He was and is very fast for his size.

Let him get a step on you and he'll make you pay... just wait and see...

My thoughts exactly, but now we definately have more speed! The long Ronnie Run..They hit each other and you can see the whole defense relax because they thought that the play was over! RB will be better under Cam and hopefully he won't just be a one year wonder like McMike or Chambers!
Ill still give chambers one more year to show something..TG does throw a similar ball to Gus, so maybe chambers can bust out again!

Ronnie is hardly a lumbering running back. For his size, 6'0" and 232 lbs (hopefully less now), he has some good speed. When he doesn't have some nagging injury like groin problems or something, he has 4.40 - 4.43 speed. He was electronically timed at 4.43 at the combine. That's just as fast as Lorenzo Booker. LaDainian Tomlinson and Larry Johnson run about 4.38 - 4.40. The difference between LT and Ronnie is "vision" and cutting ability and following his blockers just right, etc. Hopefully, our new RB coach Bobby Jackson is going to teach Ronnie everything he knows like he did with Marshall Faulk.

Speaking of LT's blockers, he had real good ones last year. 2-3 of their Olinemen made the Pro Bowl. We'd kill to have ONE Pro Bowl Olineman. Having a Pro Bowl QB, FB, and TE helped LT a tad too. When the whole offense has talent, one part of the offense like certain running plays work very well. LT took full advantage of his talent and the rest of the team's talent. That's what makes for record breaking seasons like he had last year.

I don't really agree with a lot of his points. Did the team need speed? Yes. Did it need speed more than a franchise QB? No. I'm not sure that Beck will ever be a franchise QB. Since Ginn will be used primarily as a return man, I don't see how his speed will affect the offense too much, at least for the first year or so we could have gotten the same thing from Yamon Figurs three rounds later.

Height: 5'11.75"
Weight: 231
40 Time: 4.45
College: Auburn

4.45 on the 40.... That is really really slow! (I AM BEING SARCASTIC)

by the way.... enjoy

Speed kills and we have it now. Yes, it is raw, but give it time.

I'm not sure that Brady Quinn will ever be a franchise QB. There's probably a good reason why 22 other teams passed on Quinn. We're not the only ones who didn't have Quinn rated all that high. In fact, a good number of the draft gurus had Beck rated as high or higher than Quinn.

With Cam and Terry Shea coaching Beck, I think he'll turn out pretty darned good. People probably said Drew Brees wouldn't amount to anything too when he came out of college. Same thing with Tom Brady ... a SIXTH round choice. Bottom line, who knows how he'll do? He's in a good situation here in Miami I know that. If he takes this opportunity and runs with it, he could turn out like Brees did, maybe better.

Did you see this blurb about Beck?

"Still, there is good news: ESPN's Chris Mortensen has seven coaches and GMs he consults on quarterback prospects. They've had an excellent track record of projecting greatness with him over the past decade. And most of them told him that Beck is not only better than Quinn, but that Beck is ready to be elite faster than any other quarterback in this draft."
