Figured everyone would find this interesting, PFT or not. It's certainly good news about our defense.

HUARD WAS "PLAYING SCARED" AGAINST THE FINS

A league source tells us that the Chiefs decided to make the change from quarterback Damon Huard back to Trent Green due in part to the fact that Huard was "playing scared" against the Miami Dolphins.

Per the source, several Miami defenders perceived that Huard was tentative against a physical front seven, and they concluded that it negatively affected his performance.

A career backup, Huard started only six games in nine years before starting eight straight games in 2006.

Hey, no one who plays in the NFL is a coward (except for the members of the Gramatica family tree). But it would be naïve to believe that some players aren't thinking (consciously or otherwise) about avoiding a hit. ESPN broke down video a couple of weeks ago of Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer instinctively lifting his left leg prematurely in order to avoid exposing his new ACL to injury. And Carson is no chicken.

These guys, after all, are human. (Most of them, anyway.) And human beings generally don't like to get the crap beat out of them. Some of us are less inclined than others to take a pounding, and Huard's lack of live reps over the years might have caused him to land in that categories.

Read the rolling with Javon Walker on Cnnsi. He says he don't want to get hit that's what led him to that reverse TD run. WHen the call came in he said basically uh oh, I don't want to get hit, I'm not a running back lol.

Not wanting to get hit ain't being scared.

what in the world are you talking about did you forget this is the nfl and yeah if this is true than thats why they lost the game because he is a coward.

The important thing to remember is WHY a quarterback would 'play scared'.

What causes that fear.

Well, it's two things. It's intimidation. And it's the fear of being hurt/injured. Obviously the two are related to one another. But that's the root of it. Some of those hits hurt (Crowder's shot stands out). Everybody in the league is capable of hurting someone (generally speaking). But it's the physical defenses that instill that fear/hesitation in skill players.

It's bad enough that you've got to worry about Jason Taylor blindsiding you and stripping the ball out....or big Kevin Carter planting you. But when you've got fast, physical safeties like Yeremiah Bell busting thru your guards on the blitz, it's usually indicative of the way your entire defense hits. Even our corners can pop you.

All quarterbacks are susceptible to playing 'scared'. It just takes more to get to different guys. Eventually they'll all get tenative and skittish. Some guys are 'fearless'. Those guys might not fear the physical punishment. But they fear failure. And they lose trust in the guys protecting them. That's when you get the hurried throws and bad decisions.

when you find a fearless ( in a football sense ) qb, youve found yourself a keeper, and usually mr lombardi's on his way to the party as well ( usually )

these are great points...I offer Brady up for thought..we "get" to him more than any other team(although the nyets got him good last week) any and every qb can be had.... we ARE getting there...

IMO Grossman was a victim of playing scared more than Huard. Both were harried all day long but Huard managed to throw a long perfect pass to one of his receivers when he attempted to make a comeback at the end of the game .

You pressure the QB all day long they will develop happy feet whether its Huard or Brady.

i'm..

I'm happy with QB's been scare with our defense, that was what i was talking about at the begining of the season, we needed to send a msg to the leage "We are going to beat the s*** out of you" ,Our O sucks, so is up to the D to take things into to there hands and make everybody pay ,just for star playing agains us. GO DOLPHINS!! :dolphins:

how r u gonna call him a coward...i guarantee that you would be in his same position. he simply has not played much and is afriad of the fins. he may have been scared but he certainly is not a coward.

I like the fact that Miami's defense has put fear into two quarterbacks this year :)

What's funny is that I didn't think that Huard played all that bad. Obviously, I'm no analyst and I haven't gone back over the tape. But, he seemed to be making the throws or at least putting the ball in places for his receivers to make a play. The problem for Huard was that our defense took away the run for the most part and had good pressure on him all day. Given those circumstances, I thought he played well.

I'm curious as to how that will translate this weekend to Brad Johnson. Johnson is a statue back there, but an experienced statue. Huard and Grossman haven't played a full 16 game season. How will Johnson react?
That's what I want to know.
