Merged: PFT Report: Sheridan to land with the Dolphins

Good pickup for LB coach. Sounds as if they go with only one LB coach. Great decision.

I like the move as we obviously needed to fill some holes at the LB's coaching positions but I'm just glad they didnt sign him as the DC. And at this point it looks like Al Groh is our most logically and best option for DC

Sheridan was a bit of a scape goat IMO because the Giants had a lot of injuries on defense. BUT before his year as a DC he was a great LB coach for them, and at Michigan. Between his time at Michigan (which did run a 3-4 while he was there) and his time under both Tim Lewis (who did run a 3-4) and Steve Spagnoulo (great blitzing mind) Sheridan is a great position coach.

You can't always judge a coach by a failed tenure. Sheridan has been a highly respected position coach for a couple years and has experience with a couple different defenses.

Plus, he's a good teacher.

He didnt work out as DC this season with the Giants, but as their LB coach he has Super Bowl experience, which is always a good thing. That defense was a big part in the Giants beating the Patriots in the SB. He brings a winning, championship attitude to a position he is comfortable with. Now we just need better linebackers!

I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion. Going with only one LB coach would be an extremely bad decision. There is no way one LB coach could put in the amount of time it would take to teach the different techniques and responsibilities required for playing ILB and OLB at the pro level.

The problem is his defense laid down at the end of the season. There was a failure to communicate. We'll see if a change of scenery helps. I'm on the fence with this one.

The Giants were HORRIBLE on defense this year, Im not sure I like the sound of this. :(

As a LB coach im fine with, im just happy hes not the DC

There's nothing wrong with Sheridan as linebackers coach. He was the linebackers coach of great Giant defensive units under Steve Spags in previous years, and led a solid defense the year after Spags left. This year was a bit of a red herring because the Giants had so many injuries on both sides of the football. This is a move we should be excited about.

Now get Romeo.....
