MERGED: Philbin meeting with coveted O-Line coach Andy Heck

I think we all need to chill. Anytime Miami hires a new coach, we get all excited when they make moves and think they are the savior and well...look what happeend to us. Many though Saban was the savior, Cameron, Sparano...and neither did much. Philbin has never been a head coach in the NFL and didnt call plays as an OC; so don't get ahead of yourself just yet.

Remember, it's the players who play....not the coaches. Coaches can coach all they want, but if the players don't perform...Boo.

No doubt Philbin needs to win games, but Andy Heck which is the topic would be a good hire. The history & success he has had as Coach in the league indicates it

Although the coaches should know not to start a player like Colombo at RT lol.

I think what is interesting is Philbin is attempting to hire his O-line coach first....assuming Heck is not being considered for OC...that might mean he is waiting on an OC. Mike Sherman?

Ok so from reading some information here: Heck is great at coaching the run game but not as good when it comes to the passing game.  Maybe Philbin is choosing him because in Philbins offense (which preaches quick passes and mobility), we will not need a typical pass blocking scheme... The jaguars during that time period has leftwich and garrard-- hardly the most mobile QBs.. I mean I know garrard was mobile but he took a lot of sacks.  Anyway, here is to hoping Heck is better than Sparano at coaching the o line :0)

Philbin had great online play at Iowa the short time was there. Kirk Ferentz is a great online guy but Iowa's online hasn't been quite the same since he left. I have no doubts Miami's online play will be much improved under Philbin's watch.[/QUOT

What games are they playing online?

i remember all the hype this forum had when saban brought in hudson huock as oline coach.. but i do like the choice philbin is looking at for his oline coach in Andy Heck

no time to waste....gotta get the staff together

Ozzy rules!!

I remember Heck as an offensive tackle for the Seahawks and Bears after playing at Notre Dame. He was a first round pick too. Don't know much about him as a coach, but he was a good player in the 90's.

VERY, VERY excited about coach "phil". of all the guys we were associated with for the h/c job, he was my choice.

but this would be an odd hire for me. we are in a pass happy leauge now and the WCO's bread and butter is the pass so bringing in an o-line coach whos weekness seems to be in pass blocking, its kind of odd.

but i LOVE the fact that quality coaches and people are associated with coach philbin. known names. respected names, teachers of the game. mike mccoy wouldnt have had this kind of following. nothing written anywhere suggested he could. and i dont even want to think of a todd bowles coaching staff. it would have been made up of team holdover bottom feeders and wide eyed juco coaches who would do ANYTHING to get to the nfl. heck, they would have done anything to get to a 1a college program! but enough of that. dead and gone.

its all just so refreshing. this is ross's first year out the gate with no parcells influence. its truelly HIS baby and so far he has hit the ground RUNNING! making good, as much as he could, on his season end promises.

i have had this smile on all day. this relaxed, happy feeling thinking about the finz. we went front gut wrenching, rumour fueled failure and yet another seemingly dead season before it even got started to, "oh my god! we picked the right guy! and good coaches are associated with him" in a matter of hours! its like finding out that terminal cancer report that came back from exray was actaully someone elses that got the names mixed up. YOUR STOKED! and relieved.

i have no illusions of instant superbowl or qb's throwing 6 td's a game. none. its not a pie in the sky, disillusioned false feeling of instant grandeur, but a feeling of growth is FINALLY coming to the team. progress. real teaching. stability in the coaching ranks. talent finally recognised and REWARDED instead of going back to the bench or practice squad while inferiors run around the field making mistake after mistake. and then let go to other franchises and succeeding, walden, ninkovich, welker, several TE's, dozen or so o-linemen, return guys, etc.......

and hoperfully some healing and reconciliation between the fans will follow. we have become bitter [me] and hostile and cynical towrds each other, mostly bread by the teams ineptness and years of failure and stupid decision making. i always thought we fin fans were a real different breed, a great brother/sisterhood and it all seemed to come apart during the end of the JJ years and the final blows with wanny/feidler. in the early days of the net, when sports boards/finz boards were in ther infancy, we were a tight lot. god help the jet fan or troll that started mess on our boards. squables bewteen fin fans were small and quickly put to rest.

next thing you know, guys are at each other throats over nothing, guys threatening to do bodily harm to their fin bros over the net, theatening to come to their houses and commit vilolence!

so my hope is we fans can change the atmosphere between ourselves as the new staff and owner changes the team.

it all just feels good now, it feels right, and i didnt have that feeling with sparano, cam and EXPECIALLY saban who i didnt want anywhere near the team. i actually had a mod [long gone] who pm'd me over my displeasure with the saban hire calling me every filthy name in the book and threatening me violence. it was almost surrealistic. it was shocking and really let me know how toxic things were becoming in findom. like i said, in the early years of the net and sports boards, this wasnt happening with us on the levels it has gotten to. differences of opions usually were just that and any ill feelings were squelched right away and all was good with your fin bruthas.

hopefully this feeling i am having is the real deal, the team is finally going to change for the good.

and hopefully we do to. unity on the boards, unity in the stadium. FULL HOUSES OF UNITED, ROCKIN' FIN FANS!!!!

I heavily agree. If Philbin makes us Superbowl bound fans need to unite around him. If he doesn't we need to unite against him.

First and foremost.

I was NOT a huge Philbin advocate, but I do have boat-loads of respect for the guy. We will see exactly how it pans out, and hopefully, he will be the next Don Shula. Not completely out of the question, and I do believe we will at a minimum see a huge upgrade in QB play.

That being said, I am very gaurded in my optimism on this signing. I think its "okay". We shall see, and Philbin obviously has forgotten more about football than I will ever know....just something keeps me guarded on this particular hire.
