Replace one HOFer with another: #42

IMO, the Phins should give Paul Warfield a call and hire him to replace Dan or at least interview him again for the position.

from Reese, Warfield Interview For Dolphins General Manager Position
"Perhaps a lot of people don't know my résumé," Warfield said. "I have the strength of being able to find the players to help the Dolphins win. I have the capacity to work with everybody. I can pull people together. I can identify and evaluate talent."

"Paul fell into a little different category because of who he is and what he has meant to this franchise," Jones said. "When he calls and asks, you use a little different measure."

this article talks about other guys who are too old like Shula, JJ, Beathard and Walsh and Kosar. Bernie is certainly a possibility: http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/football/7869901.htm

Jeff Diamond/Jimmy Johnson for VP?

Sounds like Danny stepped down because "Mrs. Marino" vetoed his time away from his chores...

MIAMI HAS A DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH?

After mulling for another 12 hours or so over the statements issued by the Dolphins and Dan Marino on Tuesday night, we think that the best guy to fit the specific description that owner Wayne Huizenga has provided (i.e., "a senior executive who has an extensive football background") is former Titans president Jeff Diamond.

...

Another possibility in this regard is former head coach Jimmy Johnson, who'd have an opportunity to finish what he started in Miami eight years ago. The question is whether he'd want to put in the hours required by the job, whether he'd want to walk away from a cushy TV gig, and whether Huizenga would be willing to pony up enough money.

As to Marino, some insiders believe that, in the end, his wife stepped in and vetoed the lifestyle change that would have resulted from the new position in the Miami front office. We're hearing that she wasn't enamored with the gig in the first place, and with the day-to-day grind ready to commence as his jobs with CBS and HBO were winding down, Mrs. Marino put her foot down. Coupled with rumors that Dan doesn't spend a whole lot of prep or research time in connection with his TV gigs, the difference in raw hours devoted to his work likely would have been enormous.

Well neither Mrs. or Mr.

Marino is welcome back.

Hopefully, this puts an end to some of the mythical proportions of Dan's legend.
