Merged: Rick Spielman is a GENIUS....../Rick Spielman Thread

I agree he has done fairly well especially given the hand he was dealt. At the very least he has set us up to be competitive this year and maybe make a run next year.
The only issue I have is the use of our #1 pick. With Andrews kickin' A$$ in Philly it makes me wonder if we should have made a move for him. Our O line concerns me greatly!!
Smith may be bigger but I dont know if he is much better.
James is good but not as good as I expected
McKinney is servicable and hopefully will improve
RG?????? UMMMMMMMMMM :shakeno: I guess its Whitley
St Clair is a backup
MacIntosh may be good once he is healthy, but he cant play both sides.
Carey cant even crack the starting line up comprised mostly by career backups and players who have yet to reach their potential.

Rick has been wonderful. As soon as he acquires the power to fire and hire, which has to happen, this team will begin a long stretch of deep playoff seasons.

Im not knocking the guy, I like what we got in return for O-Gun. But did we fall into this with some luck.......or was this Rick pulling off some mastermind moves here?!

NO...It's pure genius........

Just look at it....Rick asked for the most that he could get.....and then asked for comparables in asking for Suggs/Davis and Booker/Thomas....

He then GETS the COMPARABLE deal with Gordon/Booker.......

This was cooked up in the lab....trust me on this Rick is a Genius....HE KNEW the Rams would take a 3rd rounder for Gordon, and he ended up getting a higher pick in the third round......HE IS A GENIUS....we should kiss the ground that we have this guy.

My only beef with Spielman is that he wasn't aggressive enough in pursuing Brunell....that's it.

d) If Booker makes a better impact on O than the impact of losing Ogun (which remains to be seen.)
acually it would be "If Bookermakes more of an impact on the O replacing Thompson than we lose by using a committee of LDEs instead of Ogun

let them play first. Because,
a) gave up a 2nd for Feely (could be a problem if feely turns out to be just as good/bad as JF).

b) moved a step up for Carey( although it's highly unlikely, he could be a bust)

c) Boston was a waste of time (ask Cards and SD, they knew)

e) we'll see if Gordon is better than Morris.

d) If Booker makes a better impact on O than the impact of losing Ogun (which remains to be seen.)

i disagree about boston, he was a class act since he came here, he lost weight, he was spending his last 2 weeks of "free time" at a speed camp to get even faster, david boston was in no way a waste of time, its a shame he can´t play this year

That could not be less true. It was only upside. We gave up a guy who would never see the field in Miami agian in Fletcher and a 6th rounder  for a pro bowl reciever. Does he have some issues...sure. Could he have turned it around under his old WR coach....sure. It looked like he may. I would not count him out for next year either. The bottom line is exactly that, we gave up nothing and paid nothing (incentive contract) for a HUGE upside. That was basically a no loose situation.

But if Cleveland says YES. We end up with Suggs and Davis. While we OBVIOUSLY could have got Booker and Gordon who are better and is a better deal.

So, is he genius. Or just lucky Cleveland said NO?

He will NEVER get that power. He might be in on the process of hiring, but he will never get the power to hire and fire. Eddie Jones and Wayne make that call.

Section, I'm glad to see your coming around on Spielman. I have no doubt that this guy was busting his butt proably 24/7 since ricky retired looking for a running back. This probably won't happen because everyone in the media is in love with the pats, but Rick might be GM of the year. This isn't me being a homer, rick really has done an awesome job with the hand he was dealt.

So basically you are saying there are questions? hmmmm didnt know that. Ok so here are some Bills questions that cant be answered anymore than the above can w/o games played.

1. How is the Henry/McGahee situation play out, nice problem but does discontent set in?

2. Was last year and aborition for Drew, was he showing age, was it the o-line that caused him to falter? And does that mean he does any better this year?

3. Is Villareal enough to bring that o-line to respectability?

4. Is the Bills pass rush any better and is the secondary sound with an aging Vincent?

No, I have to believe that's why he insisted on a 3rd in return for OGun. He knew the whole time he was using that pick to get a RB elsewhere.

He is a GENIUS.

BTW...don't underestimate what the league thinks of Lee Suggs....they think he is a 1,500 yard back to be.

My opinion? Rick thought that Davis/Suggs was better than Booker/Gordon.

Well if he thought Davis/Suggs was better.......how is he a genius? That makes no sense.

Davis is on par with Derrius Thompson. And Suggs is always hurt and might even miss this weeks game. So, in return for O-Gun we could have got an injured RB and another Derrius Thompson. Yet, we got Chicago's #1 and a RB with big-time potential just needing an opportunity.

IM not knocking Rick, don't get me wrong here. Im just saying I would say he was more lucky than genius these past few weeks. You make your own luck and Rick will get all of the credit if these moves pan out, but if Cleveland said yes to Davis/Suggs........then we never see Booker (who is clearly better than Davis) and we don't get Gordon (who might be comperable to Suggs or maybe looked at as slightly less.

But he didn't want the 3rd. He wanted A-Train and Terell. The Bears didn't want to part with A-Train.

Once again, Rick looks great because another team said no!

Im not knocking RIck, but "genius" is a big lable to put on someone before his team has yet to play one down of one real game. That's all. He may be a genius, Im just saying........let's wait before we proclaim it.
