Dolphins | R. Williams' CFL stint over
Tue, 14 Nov 2006 09:29:24 -0800
Harvey Fialkov, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports Miami Dolphins suspended RB Ricky Williams' stint with the Canadian Football League ended after the Toronto Argonauts were eliminated from playoff contention Sunday, Nov. 12. Williams enjoyed his time in Canada and says he will miss his Toronto teammates. "The biggest disappointment for me is I'm not going to be around my teammates anymore," Williams said. "For the first time in my career, I bonded with my teammates and I'm not ready to leave them."

I wonder how his Dolphin teammates, will take that...Hmmm.

Pretty easy solution for Mr. Williams.
Fail another drug test and he can spend as much time in the Great White North as he wants.
I wouldnt put it past him to purposefully do just that.

Maybe they are all pot heads.

And I wouldn't put it past us to purposefully collect on the $5+ million he still owes us, and doesn't have, which would put him into bankruptcy.

Ricky's choice at this point is simple. Either play in the NFL with the Dolphins, or declare bankruptcy. There is no in-between. If he declares bankruptcy he will no longer be under contract with the Fins and he can play in the CFL all he wants.

So far he's resisted the bankruptcy option because of the money he does have and wants to be able to have for his kids. If he goes into bankruptcy we begin collection on his debt and absorb whatever money he does have aside from a few exemptions.

That's good ol' Ricky for you. Never a dull moment....

I admire the devotion he's displaying for his new found friends in Canada, but his home is with the Phinz. Ricky knows that, and I'm sure he's just trying to send a positive message / and a fond farewell to his Argo teamates more than anything. He's a nice guy, and I'm not surprised by this really....

It's just Ricky being Ricky in my opinion.....

PHINZ RULE!!!

Negative, next yr he'll either play for the Phins or sit at home.
Yeah, he can choose to remain in Canada but he won't be playing with his "new" teammates.

I don't doubt that given the choice he'd continue playing in Canada. What I doubt is that Ricky would be willing to declare bankruptcy to make that happen.

Normally I would agree....it's Ricky just being Ricky....but that first time I have ever bonded stuff....seems to change everything. I see that more as a shot across the bow....than just trying to be a nice guy.

Remember the Bankruptcy laws have changed, its not so simple to declare for it anymore.

I think were reading way to much into this. He's coming back bottom line. Otherwise he wouldn't have said he was going to miss his teammates.

I myself am unsure of his true intentions behind that statement, and I wouldn't hold it past Ricky knowing his background. I hope it was all just his way of saying "I had a great time as an Argo, and I'll miss the players / team"....

Who knows, but I have also heard his agent talking about him returning to Miami without hesitation. In the end, I guess it's all up to Ricky though....

But CK, what about the bigger picture? Didn't the NFL save the CFL from going under? If so what kind of precedent would this set in terms of a team's star player, who's under contract, turning his back & running to the CFL? IDK would the NFL want to open this pandora's box?

I don't see how any of that matters really. Simple facts are simple facts. Ricky's under contract with the Fins. He can't play for the Argos again unless we give permission. We won't give permission any more after this year.

Either Ricky plays for us, or he doesn't play at all, or he declares bankruptcy. There's no big picture. Just those simple choices.

As a point of stipulation I've not heard that bankruptcy laws have been changed such that a player declaring bankruptcy would no longer be released from any contractual obligations to the team. Reggie Roby set that precedent and I've not heard of it being closed.

who cares. I don't expect to see him contributing to the success of this team any more.:sosad:
