Dolphins | Saban issues statement about Traylor's arrest
Tue, 16 May 2006 19:04:22 -0700
MiamiDolphins.com reports Miami Dolphins head coach Nick Saban issued the following statement concerning the arrest of Dolphins DT Keith Traylor: "The type of behavior that allegedly took place is disappointing, it is out of character for Keith and something that we don't condone as an organization. It is important that our players understand the responsibility they have in representing themselves, their families, their teammates, this organization and our fans in a first class manner. However, because we just learned about this specific situation, we will withhold further comments about it until we gather additional information."

i wouldve never expected traylor to do anything bad but he did unfortunately

With all the trouble we got on our team and all the players with character issues we are picking up we might end up being like the raiders. I hope not.:shakeno:

Personally, I think Saban may think he can do to much with some of these people. He thinks he can change them. I see it as a phase. If it doesn't work out, he won't continue to do it. Most of the situations are low risk high reward situations, remember he is always in control of the contract. If someone rubs him the wrong way in any issue they will be gone. Remember the guy last year, was borrowing Tavares tillman's car I believe, caught racing on the interstate and was cut the next day. It is all how he perceives a certain situation.

While I agree Nick seems to be willing to take these risks, it isnt fair to Keith Traylor to say he was one of these risks. The guy has been in the league for 14 years, and I cant recall anything that he has done off the field that would make anyone question his character. While this type of behaviour cannot be tolerated, these are professional athletes who are old enough to make their own choices. Furthermore, I see that a lot of people dont realize just how important Keith is to this team. He is our only, proven, pure NT for a 3-4. I see lots of people calling for Vickerson, Wright and even Fred Evans to get their chances now, and truthfully, only Evans has the physical attributes to even think about playing this position. Kevin and Manny will get playing time this year, but with or without Traylor, it will not be at the NT position. So, I suggest that we all hope this does not affect his playing time, or we may have to look at a guy like Grady Jackson. Bottom line, it will be interesting to see if Nick makes an example out of Keith, or if he thinks of the good of this football team above all else. Because this team is better off with Keith Traylor starting at NT in a 3-4. No doubt about that.

It can be argued that making an example of Keith is for the benifit of the team. It can send a message that this type of behavior won't be tolerated and hopefully others will not follow in his footsteps and will know/see the concequences that meet them if they do. The type of punishment that I'm hoping will be desplayed is one on the practice field and fines. A punishment such as running his *** off after practice. Making him apologize in front of the team and media and let it be known that he let his team down. Look at the Nets and Heat series. I believe it was Robinson that failed a drug test and was suspended for five games. He hurt his team and now they're out of the playoffs. I'm sure the Nets could have used his help.

Jason Kid put it best when he said something like "he put himself and his personal life first and the team second", he let his team, fans, and family down. Keith is in the same situation and it IS possible that all this coming out in the open is enough for Keith to see where he went wrong. He probably feels that he shamed himself and the name his family built. Some people take that very serious.

Manuel Wright anyone?

Haa I think we have some others who could step up first if traylor is gone, like Zgonina, Holiday or Cater move to DT, and possibly Vickerson, but certaintly this would give wright much more time

It's a shame too cause his charges were misdemenors until he started wrecking stuff in the sherriff's office. Not sure how this will play out.Losing him is not the end of the season but it will leave a hole on the D-line.

Wright's no 3-4 NT. Traylor's the only good one on the team. Next is Steve Fifita who's a little raw. That just highlights the fact that we need another veteran NT, 6'2 and shorter, 320lbs and more, to stop the run. The few left include Grady Jackson and Brentson Buckner.

He's lucky they didn't charge him with tampering with the fire alarm system. Usually the smoke detectors are tied into a fire alarm panel and the fire marshall can enforce up to a 10,000 dollar fine and 5 years in jail.

I doubt Saban will make an example out of him. He's bringing in some questionable characters (like Vick) so you have to think not.

Traylor is a dayum good player. I would like to know just what was going on in his mind. If this is his first offence he should just get a fine and be able to play his last year on his contract.
