Merged: Saban shows Allen 'tough love' in win

Your avatar looks like Crowder just won employee of the week at Burger king! LMAO.

But about the 'scolding'.. I was pretty surprised at how long Saban kept after him. And it looked to me at the time that he wasn't at all receptive. But after reading their comments... its shows you that Saban is well aware of his tactics... and basic lack of tact. And it was good to read that Allen took it in a positive and constructive way. when i rad quotes on this kid I like him more and more.
2 preseason games left to get his **** together...I think he'll be fine... but catch up is hurting him.

My football coach in High School told me "when I STOP yelling at you, then you need to be worried". Saban likes this kid, and it shows. I like JA's attitude, and expect good things from him.

man of course that was the one play i missed... how did allen mess up that play? and he was playing corner at the time right?

Looked like he bit on a play fake, let the guy get away from him by 15 yards. He had very loose coverage in the first place though. I think he would have been beat anyway if the pass was good. Instead the pass was a bit off the mark and he recovered just in time to tackle the receiver in the endzone.

Thats a mistake, he's a smart guy so that won't happen much once he gets used to the offence.

What I did see that worried me quite a bit was how he was getting run over by larger players. Much like that well circulated "low-lite" film that was making its rounds here. He doesn't seem to get very good leverage when he tackles. I don't think he'll ever become a punishing hitter, but I hope he changes his habits enough not to get steamrolled on as many plays as I saw in the last game.

Good to see the rookie take it well...

Heck, I wanted to cry after watching Saban lay into him.

I dont know about that. I saw him lower his shoulder into people. One time, he lost the battle, but he sticks his head in there every time...

I agree. Even the 1 time he got knocked over, he made the stop. Once he gets into the system he's going to be a real playmaker. He's a smart kid and physically he has all the tools.

''I wasn't being disciplined or playing up to my full capability,'' Allen told reporters after the game. ``Coach Saban and the coaches show me tough love to try to get me better, but there's nobody who wants to be as good as I do.''

I really like jason allens attitude and the more he talks the more I like it. Im glad he took it as he a chance to improve rather then complaining about getting yelled at like other players do. Big props to him for learning from it and having the attitude to be a great player. Big props to Saban for laying into him instead of putting on the gloves. Man i love the direction this team is going.

yeah i saw that one tackle where he got knocked to his butt making the tackle... but it was about a 250 lb fullback he was hitting, and he still made the play...

but im not too worried if he got burnt playing corner, hes been there for what? 3 practices and you people expect him to be pat surtain? this is still a learning process for him, especially when hes at corner when he was working all the OTAs and most of the training camp at safety

I personally think Jason Allen will be fine. He just needs the adjustment time. After he signed, he was immediately put in the game situation against Jacksonville. He is trying to learn a complex defensive system at both the Safety and Cornerback position. I think by the opening game, when all the players in the secondary are back from injuries (hopefully) and he can focus on the Safety position, he will start to show his potential.

I heard coach allude to "eye" discipline and said "IF" he had kept his eyes where they belong the play would have been a non issue. Later on at 6:10 he says when he see's a player is looking into the stands for his girlfriend, "I get hot...and I tell um." were Nicks words. Rut roh...looks like JasonA got busted....

Dolphins | Allen gets an earful from Saban

Dolphins | Allen gets an earful from Saban

Greg A. Bedard, of the Palm Beach Post, reports Miami Dolphins rookie S/CB Jason Allen received an earful from head coach Nick Saban during the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 19. After Allen was beaten badly on a fourth-quarter score in Saturday night's 13-10 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, television cameras caught Saban giving the rookie an earful as he came off the field. "He was showing me tough love, you know?" Allen said. "I deserved it. I played horrible tonight." Saban excused Allen's mental lapse because he was playing cornerback after starting the game at safety in the first-team nickel and dime packages. "The guy has had, like, three or four practices at corner," Saban said. "He really played pretty well except for that play. I'm sure he'll continue to get better. He's wearing more hats than is probably beneficial to him right now."
