Despite an apparent policy by Saints coach Sean Payton to permit members of his staff to leave for opportunities elsewhere, the team could be poised to prevent quarterbacks coach Pete Carmichael from accepting the position of offensive coordinator with the Dolphins.

I thought per NFL policy and union rules teams cannot block coaches from leaving to go to other teams for promotions. That report doesnt make sense to me

Could be begrudging Parcells for not letting Sparano go to them when they wanted him for OC? Just a thought.

Anyone know anything about Hue Jackson? Makes you wonder when he's fired and Mike Mularky is hired to replace him.

Probably means they'd give him an in house promotion/pay raise to stay.

pretty sure that only applies to head coaching positions.

Latest from PFT...
CARMICHAEL STAYING PUT?
Now that Monday morning has come and gone, we're hearing that Saints quarterbacks coach Pete Carmichael has opted to stay put with the team in lieu of leaving to become the Dolphins' offensive coordinator.
At this point, it's only an unconfirmed rumor.
Carmichael has been a key ingredient in the development and rise of Saints quarterback Drew Brees. Carmichael has been his position coach since 2002, Brees' second season in the league.

The only way to get around that is to make him assistant head coach. That's the new tactic to prevent coaches from leaving. That's of course, if they don't already have an assistant head coach on staff.:err:

Mularkey was a very good oc with Pittsburgh, he was handcuffed when he was here because they basically had him try to run the same offense as Linhan. Mularkey is not considered the scrub in league circles that he is on this board.

I think this bites! I had hopes for Carmichael being our OC. I really don't know much about H. Jackson, other than he wasn't particularly successful during his run at ATL. I really hope someone can enlighten us as to whether he's actually a competent OC or not? Still, I'd much rather have had Carmichael, jmho.
