Second-round pick Samson Satele is reportedly the leading candidate to be the Dolphins' starting center this season.

That'd be asking a lot from Satele, who is undersized and played in a pass-heavy offense at Hawaii. His main competition appears to be inexperienced Johnathan Ingram. The Dolphins' line didn't improve much in the offseason.

This is great news. It is true that Samson played in a Pass-Heavy offense at Hawaii, but I think that statement of him being undersized is a bit far fetched.Satele is the same height as Pro Bowl Center Jeff Saturday and is a couple pounds heavier. I personally think he will be fine for the position and he really impressed at the Senior Bowl. Im also glad to see he is leading candidate for the Center position.

I too am very happy that Satele may start at center and I am backing the Hawaiian Connection all the way BRUDA CUZ.:ninja:

In college most o-linemen are proficient at run blocking because most programs run the ball more. Then when they get to the NFL they struggle in pass protection, taking a few seasons,if at all, to aquire the skill to be a good pass protector in the NFL. Samson Satele has had 4 years to hone his pass blocking skills, and is quite good. That said i think he will be just fine in re-aquiring his run blocking skills. What worries me more is that the Hawaii system almost never has a QB come under C to take the snap; always shotgun. So Satele will have to practice the Cnter -QB exchange alot.

Probably the 2nd best news we could hear at this point. (#1 obviously being the QB spot.) He is absolutely vital to the development and success of our line this season. He could have a large say in our record.

It seems funny that the sentinel can blatantly say that Satele is the leading candidate when Cam's quotes on the subject mentioned both he and Ingram ?? Where does this type of info come from ?? Here is the quote from his presser:

"On Rex Hadnot moving to guard and who will play center) – “He is our right guard. We haven’t declared (starting center) because (Johnathan) Ingram is doing a nice job at center and Samson (Satele) is doing a nice job at center and guard. So we’re going to have to make that determination yet."

That doesn't sound like Satele is the leading candidate to me ?? Sometimes these media types just print stuff that sounds good to their ears and not always facts...Just like some of us posters on these boards...

I have hopes that Satele will be manning the C spot for the next 10 yrs at a pro bowl level, but until the pads are put on, what do we really know about, in particular, the OL and DL ??

Maybe Ingrams impressive play will result in Satele beating out Liewenski at gaurd. Perhaps Houck will go with a young line this year exept for maybe Shelton.

I'm really hoping for stiff competition from Toledo and Esera and Wilson at the tackle positions.

There isn't going to be room for all these nice prospects on the practice squad. I'd hate to lose Parker or Mormino too but there just isn't room.

Why no mention on Mormino? I was under the impression that he would be given a shot to start at center yet I haven't heard any mention of him.

"The Dolphins' line didn't improve much in the offseason."
-- I'm not real happy with this statement either. All 5 positions will have different starters. The improvement COULD be dramatic.

It's very possible that Satele plays G this year ... and then potentially migrates to C next year - with a year under his belt ....

The 'good' news in all of this is that it leads one to believe that BOTH Ingram and Satele are better suited for C than Hadnot.

As stated before, I don't believe Hadnot is a shoo-in for any position along the line this year .... albeit, it certainly isn't a 'bad' thing if he starts at G. It just means that our line is getting better and has more talent !!

Give him time. While not every 4th rounder is gauranteed a spot on a roster, I think it stands this team will see a lot of new faces. If he can prove to be as effective as McKinney (in his time) during TC (rotating G and C), I think he'll make the squad. Then he'll have a chance to develop. But first, he's got to get through this first year.

I just keep reminding myself of how "impressed" the coaches where of him when they were watching Staley's game film. Thus how they found him.

In the end, that's ALL that truly matters.

Liwenski was a pro-bowl guard in 2004...i see no reason why he cant do real well this year. And Tala Esera wont play Tackle, hes tooooooo small for a Tackle in the NFL. hes only 6'3, thats way too small for a Tackle...and hes too thin to be a Guard...so who knows, he may convert into a tight end or even defensive end.

hey guys im new hear. arent u guys at all worried about this offensive line.guys have been moved all over the place and now a rookie center.maybe it will all work out but i dont know.
