Are games meant to be played in hurricanes? If so then sure no roof. Games being cancelled by lightning, no longer an issue. If there was ever a rainy game (no hurricane) then it would be open. The only real time it would be closed is during a huge storm (lightning and/or hurricane). In the offseason it would be closed for concerts and such. A retractable roof will not take away the elements.

EDIT: Heck even if the team and the organization really wants to play in such conditions then they would leave it open. Just dont see them thinking its a great thing to play in hurricanes and lightning.

You are just assuming they will keep it open. These roofs take a long time to open or close, and I do believe that once it's closed, or open at game time it stays that way thruout.

Whats the big deal about playing IN the rain? Fans included.

I agree with you myself. The elements have been a halmark of a ton of great games. If the conditions aren't hazardous to the players or fans, then the game SHOULD be played in them. It's the way football is meant to be played, IMO. Some of my fondest memories playing football were in the worst of conditions. Granted growing up in Ohio the worst was mainly freezing rain, making the field one giant slip and slide. But it was fun as all get out, none the less. :D

Granted I curse the weather in Ohio now, but mainly because I hate shoveling snow.... if I was PLAYING instead of WORKING in it, then I would be loving it yet again.

Thinking back, some of the funnest games I ever played in, were in the pooring rain. When you get caught in the rain walking down the street you usually get cold, and irritated, but playing a game in the rain is a blast, and as long as your running around, you stay warm as can be.

I moved to Miami from Alaska so I know all about shoveling snow, even though I was just a kid my Pops made me, and my two brothers do all the dirty work.

The reason I don't want a roof is because the elements are a part of football. Rain is a part of football. Heat is a part of football. I think the game loses some authenticity when it is played under a roof.

I voted no...Perhaps just enough to cover the fans to keep them "moderately dry" would be okay, but football is a game designed to be played in the mud...I loved football practice in the rain growing up...it was refreshing

as bad as they suck, they dont have a roof up there in buffalo or foxbor to keep the cold and snow out. were supposed to be football fans, what are you people turning into....

Retractable. Meaning it's not permanent. The heat really isn't that big of an advantage, but injuries occur in the five inches of water we play in in those first two months. Plus, I'd much rather be under a roof in those 110 degree games.

id rather have a field turf installed with a new draining system for the field than ever go to a domed or retractable stadium. footballs not about being comfortable. i see now why we have the quietest crowd around...

Not to come off like a wussy but do you want to bring your 2-10 year old child to a game where its 100+ or torrential downpours. Mmm nothing better then watching the game while my son gets pnemonia. You are there to be entertained and watch a good football game, not to be strucken down by the weather. Yes i go to the games yes i get sunburnt, drunk, rained on, and last year i froze my @$$ off a few times. I loved every second of it but as a father theres no way i could take my son to sit through that. A roof (retractable or otherwise) permits this event to become a bigger family event then it already is. More family means more $$ and more money means wayne says YES.

My son is older (14) but he has sat thru it and enjoyed it. I see your point, I would not want to bring my younger daughters (they wouldn't want to go anyway) to a nasty weather game. I also understand the $$$ issue for Wayne.

Put I still would rather see all the games outside at all stadiums. I love watching the games in a snowstorm, or a downpour. I love watching the old tapes of the ice bowl!

Again, I'm old school, but the times, they are a changin!

Couldnt of said it better.

How do you know that it will be closed in slight rain, or wind, or the heat?

We just dont know if or when it would be closed, like I stated earlier, I believe that our owner and coach would only close it under extreme conditions. This is strictly for business that would be brought in during the offseason.

Plus someone also had a very good point earlier and said that it does take a long time to open and close the roof. In south Florida rain storms can pop up within minutes time. There would not be time to make the decision to open or close the roof just for a little rain.
