Is the retactable roof a good idea?

I have no problems with a regular roof or a retractable one. I think there is something to be said for our team having no gas left in the tank come December.

Please vote NO to adding a retractable roof on the stadium. Our players practice in the heat and humidity all through the summer and this gives us a small advantage on gameday when teams who practice in cold weather areas come to town.

Do you think they would put roofs on Giants stadium, Foxboro stadium, Rich Stadium?????? Heck NO. They want to have an advantage.

JUST SAY NO!! Let the Jets, Bills and Patsys sweat their butts off in September!

:fire:
Actually, what you have to hope for IS the Retractable roof.
Wayne seems to have made up his mind.
He wants Dolphin stadium to be more of an income producer and having a controlled environment allows the stadium to attract a wide variety of alternate events in the offseason.

The only other option is the permanent dome which would really suck.
The retractable roof is our only hope to keep Dolphins football being played in the environment it should be played in, outdoors!

I have yet to hear one argument that would convince me that is actually an issue.

If anything I think it makes this team a tougher one.

Has the Heat killed the supremacy of the Miami Hurricanes?
Please!

How come the heat wasn't a factor in the undefeated season or any other of the fantastic seasons this franchise has had over the years.

We have had BAD teams bottom line.
It wasn't the heat.

Dome teams are notoriously soft and have never won a Super Bowl that wasn't played in a dome. Besides the fact that football is a game that is meant to be played outdoors on grass, putting a dome or retractable roof would make us soft. The elements are part of the game, don't take them away.
No truer words have ever been spoken.

at least theyve brought a championship to the city...

the dolphins have embarassed us for the last 20 years.

Why go there? Everyone knows South Florida is a football town. Every other sport is a distant 2nd no matter how many titles they may or may not win in Miami.

Dome Stadium...NO

Retractable Roof...YES

Why not have a roof when the bad weather starts to roll in...it only makes sense and we can still keep the roof open on hot sunny days. :D :cooldude:

The heat isn't near as big an advantage as you make it out to be. Playing in the cold is a much bigger deal. Besides, I'd rather watch a football game in a beautifully renovated stadium. It'll look mighty nice. Yes to retractable roof.

Yes temperature can be an advantage but not as big as you think,
1.
Everyone practices in the heat in training camp and 90 degrees isn't uncommon anywhere.

2.
Players are from everywhere in the world and know what heat feels like

3.
You can simulate heat preety easily, Cold is another story

4.
In The bills famous home opener against the patriots on Field Temperature was 100+ degrees

Nice theroy but it really doesn't matter
I agree that people are used to the heat but they aren't used to the humidity in Florida. The heat is totally different from Florida than Arizona.

Only until the proud generation that witnessed Miami's greatness begins to die off...look at the cities demographics now; like 60% latino--a culture that values baseball not football--and the kids are not old enough to remember the Dolphin's days

the city was only a football town because the football team was a winner. We have the worst most fickle sports fans in the nation and i hate it. The Miami Hurricanes are the greatest college team in history over the last 20 years and we only sell out when FSU and UF come to town because they bring their fans with them.

You are way off here.

S. Florida IS Dolphins territory like it or not.
The Marlins have won 2 championships and still no one really cares.
You listen to sports talk radio down here and the hosts try to bring up other teams yet the discussion always reverts back to the Dolphins.

You say Latino's like Baseball and not football?
Been to any Dolphin games lately?
I see MANY latino fans.
I'm a season ticket holder and many of the fans around me are spanish.

The Dolphins own S. Florida and always will.

100 degrees in Barfalo is almost like having A/C in Miami. The Humidity makes it ten time worse. Being so close to the ocean where ocean temps are in the 80's makes even the rain hot sometimes.

The theory is dead on, and admitted by opposing teams. Watch a Fins game in Sept, and they always show the other teams defense gathered up on the bench where they have the A/C blowers. The Dolphins are so used to it that half the time they don't even have them on their sideline.

Thats a fact Jack!

Sorry young man but the Latino population that have been living here, and have grown up here are coming around to the love of Football. The stadium is full of them now.

Besides all that, football is a much more exciting game to watch in person. I also love Baseball, and the Marlins, but there is no comparison as to which game I would rather attend.

Oh I agree Miami fans are fickle and spoilt. So much so they care more about the football team that hasn't won a title in 31-years over the baseball team that has won 2 titles over the last 7-years.

The main thing here is that NFL football is the most popular sport in America by a wide margin. Every other sport is a distant 2nd place in popularity. It really is that simple.

Wayne is all about the mighty buck he cad add over a billion dollars a year of local buisness to south florida with some sort of roof. The roof is happening lets just hope it turns out to be retractable and as cool as this one:

the dolphins will have input but this is way beyond a roof just for the phins like it or not

Hey if you think it is hot in Miami, you should try standing for the entire game in the student section of Sun Devil Stadium like I use to for the ASU Sun Devils....September temperatures often exceed 110 degrees.....but they do play their games at night quite often, when the temps often drop down to the low 100's.
Ohhh but there is little humidity.
