Our pal Lance Zierlein, a Houston radio host who has a blog at the Chronicle web site, reports that the Washington Redskins will sign Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth upon the start of the free agency period.
Unless, that is, the Titans exceed the offer that the Redskins will be making.
Writes Zierlein: “My source tells me to look for a contract that could break $100 million with an average of $15 million to $16 million per. My guy is almost never wrong and [Redskins owner] Dan Snyder gets what he wants.”
The bright side? The next time that Haynesworth tries to remove the scalp of Cowboys center Andre Gurode with a cleat, the behavior will better fit the nickname of Haynesworth’s team.
On Monday, Peter King of SI.com predicted that Haynesworth will land in D.C., pointing out that Snyder was seen dining in Indianapolis with Haynesworth’s agent, Chad Speck.

The free agency maret for D-linemen just went up...

The Redskins love signing high profile players but never get anywhere

My favorite was in 99(?) when they signed all of those over the hill guys like Bruce Smith, Brad Johnson, Deion Sanders, etc., and fell completely flat on their faces.

If anyone would shell out a huge amount of $$$, it'd be Dan Snyder.

Snyder is right up there with crazy Al Davis.

I could see them shelling out that much money for him. I don't think he is worth that much, but I wouldn't blame him for taking that kind of a contract. But wow, that is a ton of flow for a DT.....

I don't think peyton manning or Tom Brady would be worth that much money.

That kind of spending seems reckless. Especially in a slumping economy but who cares that's not my team.

Skins sign Haynesworth

From NFL.com:

Football has its first $100 million defensive player.

Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth reached agreement Friday on a seven-year, $100 million - yes, $100 million! - record-breaking deal with the Washington Redskins.
A press conference is scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. ET, assuming Haynesworth passes his physical.
The deal includes $41 million guaranteed in the first three years, and the maximum value of the deal could be $115 million. It is the richest contract ever given to a player and includes more guaranteed money than in any contract in NFL history.
And just like that, football has its first $100 million defensive player.

Washington

Will someone explain to me how Washington can afford haynesworth and Hall they were only like 8 mil under the cap does this just mean over the next two or three years they are gonna be like 15 mil over

The guaranteed mony is being spread out over 13 months....a creative way to get albert his money within the first year and be able to basically cut the cap number in half. IMO the redskins are banking on an uncapped 2010 and not caring about how much they are paying for these players. YOU CANT BUY CHAMPIONSHIPS.

the Skins are like the Yankees, they sign high priced people, thinking its gonna help them. I wont be surprised if the Skins give up draft picks to get other good names.

i woulda let Albert go to Detroit, they need all the help they can get. They need their own stimulus package

No player is worth that much in my opinion, Marino maybe in his mid 20's, but other than him, I would be hard pressed to lay down that kind of lumber.

they are idiots........this guy is going to fall flat on his face.

The Redskins are delirious and heres a sure sign. I'm just super stoked our FO would never attempt to ruin our team signing someone to a contract nearly as stupid as this. This is a HUGE mistake on Washington's part. Can't wait till he sprains a knee! J/K!!
