Owner Stephen Ross decided not to make a coaching change after Monday’s loss to the Jets dropped Miami to 0-5. But a close associate of Ross said Tuesday that the owner remains “very frustrated” and Sparano’s status would again be subject to re-evaluation if the Dolphins lose at home Sunday to 1-4 Denver.
Ross so far has resisted firing his head coach because players have told him the team still believes in Sparano and that he hasn’t lost the locker room; Ross has been advised by friend Carl Peterson and others that in-season changes do not usually make a difference; and there’s no in-house interim candidate who would necessarily be an upgrade.

Also, Ross believes switching to an interim coach (potentially defensive coordinator Mike Nolan) would not boost ticket sales for the rest of the season.

But the associate said Sparano’s job status nevertheless remains subject to week-to-week review because of Ross’ unhappiness with the on-field product. The Dolphins have lost eight consecutive games dating back to last season, and barring a miraculous turnaround this season, the question is not if Sparano will be fired, but when.

As Ross watched Monday’s game from a suite at MetLife Stadium, “at times he was very [ticked] off,” the associate said. “And other times he laughed it off because he’s sitting there with friends and it’s embarrassing to watch this when you’re there entertaining friends."

Ross really looked pissed when the camera showed him during the game.

Stay the course. Almost 1/3 of the way to our goal. What will sell more tickets, an interim coach this or Luck next year? Eyes on the prize.

this is horrible news.

We need Tony til the end of the year.

More losses please for the new regime to get better draft picks in each round...

Tickets will be bought with a franchise QB and a franchise coach...I thought a herald article on monday revealed ross knows this...

Ross looked like he wanted to make a change last year and I believe he flew out to meet with Harbaugh, who was coaching Stanford.....for whatever reason the job offer either wasn't made to Harbaugh, or Harbaugh said, "No thanks," but Sparano clearly knew it was start winning or you are gone. I wouldn't have been so generous to Sparano. He hasn't done anything to inspire any confidence in him, and his constantly clapping and fist pumps after we get kick a FG in the Red Zone has to make the players wonder what is going on, and why Tony is still here. Knowing our luck, Moore will throw for 5 TD's next week and Sparano will get a pass.

ehh...mike nolan won't fix anything either...we'll just be issuing in the mike nolan error...there's no fixin this this season

you might get a one game rally cry if nolan takes over...might

Just leave Tony be for the season. You're paying him anyways. All you have to do is inform the guy that this will be his final season as the head coach of the Dolphins. Tony can stick around or walk away.

Ross has way more patience than I do.. I can't ****ing stand Sparano anymore and all the bull**** he puts out there on and off the field

I know that feeling. Laughing on the outside and red hot on the inside.

Would a change at HC to Nolan cause the Dolphins to start winning games? Let's look at the history.

Dolphins 2004
Wannstedt went 1-8 and then resigned.
Jim Bates became interim coach and went 3-4.

Minnesota 2010
Brad Childress went 3-7 and was fired.
Leslie Frazier became interim coach and went 3-3.

Atlanta 2007
Bobby Petrino went 3-10 and then quit.
Emmitt Thomas became interim coach and went 1-2.

Atlanta 2003 (this would be very similar to us as far as coaching experience of the guy who would take over)
Dan Reeves went 3-10 and then was fired.
Wade Phillips became interim coach and went 2-1.

Cincinnati 2000
Bruce Coslet went 0-3 and was fired (obviously that was brewing for a while)
Dick LeBeau became interim coach and went 4-9.

Cleveland 2004
Butch Davis went 3-7 and was fired.
Terry Robiskie became interim coach and went 1-5.

So basically in every case, except maybe Cleveland 2004, the team responds to the interim coach and wins more games. Sparano gets fired we'll probably win 3 or 4 under Nolan and kiss Luck goodbye.

The only coach i want who is a genious is TONY DUNGY . I`m glad gruden wont be here because he is a terrible coach he won a SB with the exact schemes and personnel that DUNGY left there, after that he sucked big time. TONY DUNGY made not one but two monster teams and won the SB as well. i also dont know about "the chin" cowher. o`donnell? stewart? terrible eye for QB`s. and i dont care what people say but those SB were a gift from the league. besides i dont know how succesful he would be without dick le beau as DC.

the 2011 dolphins are a poorly coached football team. they are not in shape and they do not perform at a fundamental level.they dont manage the clock or communicate with each other on the field. poor tackiling poor run/pass blocking and the qb doesnt seem to have any progressions on pass plays he just eyeballs marshall.these faults are the coaching staffs' fault. they all gotta go

IRELAND is as much to blame for this sh*ty team as anybody.

How can he possibly get a free pass for this mess? It's his team, his players, his philosophy, his bad team chemistry.

that is what i say keep til the end you already the worst team why make changes now

quite the conundrum for the SFL'ers: the only way they may end up retaining Tony might be to put a win up on the board.
