Steelers D... A Good Test For Gus!

First off I'm a Feeley supporter and I'm a little disappointed that the QB competition between Gus AJ wasn't as fair as it was perceived to be but I'm gonna put my faith in Saban and trust that he knows best!! And I will continue to support the Dolphins regardless of Gus starting!

Judging by how the Steelers D turned the heat on McNabb last night I'm very interested to see how Gus handles that kind of pressure. Our offensive weapons of Chambers, Booker, Boston, McMichael, Brown & Williams are way better (on paper at least) that what McNabb had to work with in Westbrook, Lewis,.... Though Philly does have a much better OL.

I wasn't impressed with what Gus brought to the table against the Jags D! He only got any kind of offense going thanks to those big runs by RW! The Pitt D is a notch above the Jags D so he better bring his 'A' game!

And I really hope that Feeley gets at least 1 series with the starting offensive unit! Should be an interesting game.

GO 'FINS!!!

I disagree.. the Jags hav a top 5 D and probably have the best front 7 in the NFL.

Gus did alright against them.

I'm not a supporter of either qb although I am a supporter of whichever qb starts for the fins.(if that makes sense) anyway, yes this will be quite a test. The steelers looked solid on O and D. I look forward to seeing how our starters do against them this week.

Steelers looked tough... so.....

If Frerotte starts, goes 6 14 for 60 yards no TD, and an INT is the QB competition still open, or do you stay the course with Gus knowing that he played a tough D?

id still rank the pitt D ahead of theirs... and gus really didn't do well (yes he outperformed AJ before someone comes in here and tries to make it an AJ/Gus thread)... i think gus really needs to get his accuracy down cause im starting to get worried about that if hes the starter...

Saban has said it remains open competition. Doesn't matter what I think. He will play who he thinks has the best chance to win games.

it depends, its not about stats its about the throws and the reads... if a ball gets tipped and its an INT, im not gonna knock the QB for that in the preseason, just like if a ball gets tipped and turns into a TD, im not gonna praise him...

its not about the stats in the preseason, at least to me...

I would like to see Sage get a shot w/ the 1st team. Damn, I was hoping AJ would run away w/ this thing...now Sage has piqued my interest and I want to see him run the 1st string.

I have a good feeling about Saban however and I believe he will make the right choice.

Question? How is this competition not fair?? And it's not over, Saban said it himself ("There is still competition at this position, but we want to see how the chemistry develops with Gus being the starter, and going from there and seeing how we can affect the first unit practicing that way this week.")
It's been nothing but fair, AJ just needs to step up and play better, it's as easy as that!

Agreed, I'ld like to see each QB get a solid week of practice plus a half(game) with the first team.

Whoever we put in as our QB could be in big trouble against the steelers D I saw playing last night..They were # 1 last year in team D and they looked outstanding, doesn't look like they missed a beat. This should be a great test for our O line or a great disaster and that's what makes me nervous..it won't matter whoe's at QB if they don't have time to throw..I don't think the QB position in this game will be the deciding factor it will be our O line..Gus,Brock,Aj or Sage tighten that chin strap...we need our D to do the same and get a win against a playoff team.

Well I really wasn't shooting to make this an 'AJ vs Gus' debate but I guess I was asking for it with that one statement!

And to address your last point... No I don't think the competition was completely fair! In the 1st game no OL schemes were put in place to account for the Bears blitz packages. But even still AJ looked decent with the starters and could've made a dent had... i) DT not dropped that pass and ii) He hadn't taken that nasty hit from Urlacher. Gus comes in and gets a couple of lucky breaks (i.e. long pass to CC) and throws a fluke TD to Gilmore.

Jags game... Gus comes in... RW runs wild and moves the chains downfield to get a FG. Also blitz packages are picked up this game!! AJ comes in and plays with the 2nd stringers... Gordon fumbles, Minor drops an easy pass... AJ gets frustrated with the 2nd stringers (whom he barely practices with) and tries to force a pass to Newson who makes little to no effort to go for the ball... End result a pick! I can understand Feeley's frustration here as it almost like he's being set up to fail!

So "No" I don't think the competition was nothing but fair! But I also believe that Saban may have his reasons for letting things evolve as they have and I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. I hope Gus rises to the occasion and sets opposing defenses on fire.... I really do!!

I hope Spit allows Mr. Blitz, Dick Lebeau to go all out against your team.

Maybe THAT's part of the reason AJ is losing the competition... A QB has to keep his cool and make good decisions even in a frustrating situation... Just because things aren't going a QB's way doesn't give him cart blanche to make bad decisions.

I'm sure he will..Somebody is going to get KO'ed I think (we need more body bags)..I just hope we can bring the same kind of heat and return the favor to them..we need to play smash mouth big time. Again the way they played last night was impressive.
