Hey all,

I know that we've talked about in the past of whether or not Welker makes this team. Including myself and just about everyone else on here agreed that Welker would make the team and remain with the same responsibilities as last season. Turns out like they announced this morning he has repeated to handle everything from last season. Just wanted to see if everyone still agrees with that or if anyone believes it should change throughout the season.

DUAL THREAT

Wes Welker will continue to serve a dual role Thursday as Miami's third wide receiver and return specialist. The work Welker gets at receiver will continue because no one beat him out during the preseason.

''He deserves, based on his contribution, the opportunity to play,'' Saban said. ``He's been very productive this preseason, especially in practice, not that he's had a lot of opportunities in games. So I think it's for someone to beat him out, not for us to take it away from him.''

Rookie Derek Hagan is the fourth receiver likely to be active Thursday.

This is somewhat of a disappointment considering Nick Saban didn't want this to happen and wanted welker spared the extra duties and risk but, I love wathing this guy play.... the more the better, afaic.

Yea this is the main reason I see Hagan taking over for Welker at the #3 receiver . . . tho Welker has proved valuable in the slot, it would be nice to let him focus more on the return game and get a guy with his similar tuffness to take over the slot for him. I think Hagan can be that guy, as early as Thursday night.

It clearly depends upon how HAGAN progresses ... for the same reason VICK could not make the team ... experience means a WHOLE LOT when push comes to shove ...

IF you fancy yourself a legitimate playoff caliber team ... You go with the EXPERIENCE until the guy with potential starts to PROVE himself consistently on the FIELD !!

We 'should' be a playoff team ... we are not 'rebuildiing' ... thus you go with what gives you the best chance to WIN - NOW ....

IF by the end of the season, HAGAN has not solidified the #3 slot -- that would be a 'bad' sign for him .... then again -- we 'could' bring in ROGERS ... so, you just never know how it will work out ...

BUT, WELKER stays until someone shows on the FIELD that they can at a MINIMUM match what he does as a receiver ....

To be the man,you got to beat the man. Welker is that man until someone can step up and take it away from him.

:D well..... i am ashamed to say that i have him in my fantasy league.

my league gives 1 point for ever 15 return yards.. .5 points for receptions... and 1 pt for every 15 yards recieving...

so welker has quietly been one of my staple players for the last couple of years. he never scores huge numbers for me but consistenly puts up numbers as a solid fantasy starter.:D

Wes Welker has been one of my favorite players on the team ever since the Dolphins first picked him up in 2004. He was pretty much all we had to cheer about until the second New England game that year. I love his toughness, heart, and ability to keep the chains moving. I am not at all surprised he is keeping the same role as last year (although hopefully Derek Hagan will come into his own and eventually take the #3 spot, so Welker can focus more on return duties).

A poor man's Ed McCaffrey.

He adds an element that is almost lost in the modern NFL. He's the underrated guy who takes everyone else's garbage and turns it into a starring role.

It annoys many that he's still as valuable to us as he is... they keep wanting him beaten out. Fact is.... he brings it every Sunday and leaves it all on the field. Every time he touches the ball he wants to change the game. Give me 10 more Wes Welker's and you'd have one helluva exciting offense.

I think someone has said it best:

WES WELKER CANNOT BE STOPPED!

Phinz Rule!

wes welker is totally awesome and fully deserves the spot that he has recieved this season as 3rd reciever and return man. i hope he gets his first recieving touchdown this weekend and puts in a solid and productive season for us there and proves him self to those doubters out there.

WES IS THE BOMB GO WES!!!!!!!

I cant say I expected it but he definatly deserves it. Wes Welker is of a dying breed in the NFL. Everytime he is on the field, he is looking for an oportunity to change the outcome

mccaffrey is 6'5", welker is 5'9". bad comp. welker is just a lil tougharse that keeps producing. as hagan progresses, he'll most likely take over the slot, but welker is a fixture on this franchise.

Thank Spielman for picking him up

I'm thrilled, can't wait to see more clutch catches from him every game... now this season I'm waiting to see him catch a Culpepper TD :dolphins:
