We might field the most improve defense in the AFC. The safety combo of Bell & Wilson should be great at helping against the run and putting the HIT on recievers going over the middle. At cornerback Davis & Allen could be a fantastic combo. Throw in Smith to cover big recievers and we have a ton of tools to play with. Green will give us a nice dime package as well.

Langford & Merlin will be much better in there 2nd year at rushing the passer and against the run. Worried about Ferguson age at the nose, but on a whole this group should be much better in 09. The key going to be McDaniel, Solai & Randy Starks working into the rotation.

Now if Jason Taylor returns or Cameron Wake is the real deal? Joey Porter is going to be even better in 09. Your now going to have two nasty threats comming off the edge. If this happens big things and lot's of easy turnover can happen. Plus we can add in Roth for even more depth.

I believe our inside backers of Ayodele & Crowder are nothing special, but with Bell & Wilson behind them and excelling versus the run. I feel our run defense will be better in 09 as well. I felt this was a postion we needed to address in the draft. Now there was some talk of moving Matt Roth insidebacker, because of his ability to shed blockers. So this might be a reason we did not pull the trigger.

Final thoughts Paul Pasqualoni has more tools to play with in 09 and if things fall our way. The defense could be scary good this year, can not wait to watch this group on the field!

yea, who would have thought a parcells team's weakest point on defense is the line

If Matt Roth or Erik Walden could make a strong transition to ILB it would be absolutely huge.

Then we would deep everywhere on defense accept perhaps NT dependeing on the undependable Soliai or the mysterious Cohen.

My concern lies with the OL.

Langford & Merlin will be much better in there 2nd year at rushing the passer and against the run.

Langford and Merling's job isn't to rush the passer in a 3-4 defense. You don't see 3-4 DE's out there getting 10 or more sacks, ever. Any sack or pressure they get on a QB is just a bonus.

The pass rush in a 3-4 comes from the linebackers. Langford and Merling are there to occupy two gaps a 3-4 DE's free up space for the linebackers. 3-4 DE's are not one gap shooting DE's.. And in obvious pass situations, the 3-4 DE's move inside to become DT's as the nosetackle is taken out.

The defense should be better but let's give Davis some time to get up to the NFL level. CB is not a position that rookies come in and dominate right away.

If no other OLB's will be brought in then that puts alot of pressure on Wake to make an impact right away, hopefully he's ready.

When they are in on passing downs, there job is to get to the Quarterback and collapse the pocket still. I never said they be 10 sack player's each. But if they combine for between 8-10 sacks that be perfect for us. Now remember Starks & Holiday combined for 6.5 last year. [they where inside on most passing situations last year] I hope this year Langford and Merling step up and can do better job.

It's foolish to say the only pressure and sacks can come from the outside linebackers. I do not care where it comes from CB or SS blitz or if the referee trips the QB. I take a sack any way I can, Langford & Merling both can get better in there 2nd year at rushing the QB. [last year they combined for 3 sacks]

I actually believe that Roth could play inside...for fure he's big and strong enough to hold at the point when taking on the guards....I think the key could be Wake....if this guy can really play and get the pressure we need then our defence will be much improve....I doubt Porter will get as many sacks this coming season but as a whole our defence could get more combined sacks....the secondary has the makings on a special unit but they need the pass rush up front first.

Ozzy rules!!

I like the potential and mix of veteran leadership and young talent in the secondary, although I was never in love with Vontae Davis, and I do like our front 3 and a couple of our linebackers.
If things fall into place like they possibly can where the kids step up in the secondary, Wake provides a palpable pass rush on the other side of Porter, and we get good push by the interior D line than we can have a very stifling D.
However, if we don't find a consistent pass rush and if we don't get production from the interior line then we won't take productive steps next year defensively. To me, those aren't the only concerns for our D going forward, but they are the biggest two concerns.

I may Be Wrong But I Certainly Think Miami can have a ...

TOP 5 Defense...I mean look at the names we have and the depth...Parcellls addressed the Secondary drastically and the Lb core looks solid along with the ends..I just think we should sign a fat NT come free agency in july there will be more cuts

DE- Kendall Langford
NT- Jason Ferguson
DE- Phillip Merling

LB- Joey Porter
LB- Channing Crowder
LB- Cameron Wake
LB- Jason Taylor

CB- Will Allen
CB- Vontae Davis

FS- Gibril Wilson
SS- Yeremiah Bell

That is the Projected Lineup...Yes JT will sign here

The depth is tremendous with Randy Starks, Matt Roth Reggie Torbor, Akin ayodele Derek Smith Sean smith....

I cannot wait till season starts.......

So tell me wat u guys think of Miami being top 5 Defense
