Many here on finheaven have been distraught about the lack of signings on the offensive side of the ball. Cam and Mueller have already stated that an injection of youth and speed is needed on this team, especially on the offensive side of the ball. I think we can all agree that this year, average FA’s are getting monster contracts. More so than any prior year. I’ve heard of people lobbying for FA’s such as Jamal Lewis. Please look at his production over the past 2 years, and you will see it’s not a wise choice. Lewis is only an example of how cap money is being spent like mad. Unfortunately the dolphins are under the cap, but not to the degree of other teams who can spend on mediocrity.
The front office’s approach of patience has paid dividends overall. We are still under the cap. Significantly more than when we started. After all is said and done, we acquired a legit replacement for Donnie Spragan in Joey Porter, who with no doubt will create chances for our offense to be on the field more. (Makes sense)
I know there is going to be a lot of keyboard rattling if we pick up Trent Green. I for one am not a huge fan of bringing in a 37 year old QB into the mix, however, if Daunte is unable to play (we have to open up to that possibility, rather than bet it all on his rehab)
I would be more comfortable with a veteran presence. Even if we draft Quinn in the first, he should not be thrown into the fire day one unless he works miracles during preseason. If we did that, you could officially call the season expendable. Cam and Mueller have already said its not. Here are some stats on Green for your viewing pleasure.

Not too bad for a team that ran the ball over 400 times with no name receivers.

In conclusion, I believe the offense is coming, and it will be a fast, young and well coached offense. You can expect a better offense than we had last year…I promise.
We are even coming out of FA into the draft with 3 and possibly 4 additional draft picks. ESPN have already named us in the Top 3 performers in the off season. I definitely agree. We have accomplished many positive things without breaking our backs financially. The injection of youth is coming in the draft. I’m willing to bet we spend about 75% of our picks on the offensive side of the ball. So let’s be patient and watch the magic happen. Signing expensive and older players is a lesson I hope we learned during the Saban era. We should have learned because we are still paying for it.

Go Phins!!!!

I love what Cam and Muller have done this oofseason...The defence will be even better this year abd younger and our offence will score more points too....can't wait for the draft....and the draft happens to be on the day I get back from my cruise too so I'll be ready to just watch the draft.

Ozzy rules!!

Great post.

I've been against signing Trent Green. Why? Because I believe people simply want rid of Daunte and it's not even time to assess him in his tenure.

However, one thought tingles in the back of my mind..... I don't know everything going on with Daunte's health at this moment in time. For all I know, Cam and Mueller are sniffing on Trent Green because they have medical information that could spell the end for Daunte.

But, I don't want Daunte dropped for any other reason. If it's just to bring a new QB in with the new Coach... I'm completely against it. I would be saddened to learn that Daunte's unable to recover. It would kill me.

I'm not the biggest Daunte fan on the earth, but I simply get tired of our trigger happy fans who want something only because they want it.

Aside from that, I would be ok with brining in Green... as long as we draft a starting LT and C on Day 1.

One last thought, you spoke of not overspending and learning our lessons from Saban. Above all else, I oppose acquiring Green because it would cost us yet ANOTHER draft pick and possibly a new decent sized veteran salary. That seems to fly headlong into your logic of spending wisely and not wasting picks. So, for that I kinda question your support of acquiring Green.

BTW, I questioned Blitz along these same lines....

As I've been busy, I've not seen his reply... but I think my point deserves valid consideration in the whole Trent Green debate.

And we could start with the guy in your sig. Good stuff. We need to open up our minds and accept the fact that doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is assinine. The cap is being fixed overnight IMO. It is sending a very strong message to the whole team. You better believe it!
Leaders like Zach and JT are fed up and although they do not know a whole lot, they know the moves that are being made are good ones long term and in the short term be competitive. It all will hinge on the Oline and QB IMO. We can easily win 10 games if we just get that right. No doubt in my mind because we should have/could have beaten the Jets and Bills at least once but because Our oline and DC were way off with Mularky, we suffered too much early. I do not see that happening this year. I see mistakes, but rookie type mistakes that can be progressively overcome with the right talent.

O.K. I see your point. By no means would I consider the Green deal if it costed a lot of money. I believe he can be aquired in a deal for signing bonus money that does not count against the cap as well as incentives for games played. As for the draft pick, I would agree to a 7th or a conditional 6th next year for games played. He does not command a first day pick anyway we go so no harm no foul.

I hope your right about Cpep. He does deserve a chance. I do not believe he would be cut. Its not worth it. My fear is that a QB who relies on mobility is forced to be the "pocket passer"
Like I said, patience is the key. Lets see how this all plays out, Im sure it will be the right decision either way.

Agreed. It appears the long term and short term choices are cohesive. What I mean by that is that we are not "rebuilding" the team for tomorrow. But taking the 2 into consideration so that we are constantly competitive. I like that.

Nice post Rubbin, I'm not a huge fan of acquiring 37 year old QB's, but if it is a stop gap whilst a young QB is groomed I can live with it.

Great post! We suffered while Jimmy J & Dave W tried to move over the hump signing older players, Saban's 1st year looked good, like it might be on track but then he started stop gapping with guys like Bennie Anderson!!?? I am already enjoying the show the new regime is putting on!

Absolutely, our decisions in personnel have been a direct contributor to being out of the playoffs for 5 years. Thats unacceptable for this franchise. We are not the Cards or Lions.

great post man, absolutely great. it shows that its really hard to objectively look at your favorite team without being a fan. you have captured that grasp. I enjoyed the joey porter move, and to get a 2nd round for wes is great, 3 picks in the first 2 rounds is great. ill be enjoying the draft with a bucket of popcorn and let the men do work.

someone find me wes welkers house so i can egg it, i live an hour from the stadium.
