i heard some rumors here, so i wanna ask if it's possible that we sign ken hamlin and try to trade renaldo hill? i heard the panthers might be interested in him?

I personally dont know, but that would be interesting...Wonder what they would be willing to give up? Seems like our staff is really trying to get as many draft picks as possible. Either for gaining a lot of youth on the team, or combining picks in a trade to move up early in rd 1, or a combination of both. Either way, with a lot of picks it gives us a lot of flexibility to do what we feel we need to do.

I've seen the rumor as well floated around here. Personally, I don't mind it, but it raises the question of what to do w/Jason Allen. You'd have Hamlin and Bell at the S spots, so, do you move Allen to CB - I think this is a mistake, he doesn't really posses the shutdown ability, hip-turning, and speed you'd need, and at 213 lbs - that's a load to be carrying around out on an island.

I am also concerned about his CB skills. I think we need to develope him as our Safety. I think he would be fine at that position.

But what do we do with Allen?

Ultimately, you at least have to try switching him to corner. That's why you don't draft tweeners high, by the way. Allen doesn't have the instincts to play safetie, but he doesn't have the maneuverability to play corner, either. At the moment, I don't see him starting at either position. I'm curious to see if Capers eventually figures out a role for him, but I was shocked when I saw him play last season.

I agree, though I think Hamlin would be an upgrade over Allen or Hill.

I agree. I think Hamlin is an upgrade. I thought Hill did an alright job last year. I'd be interested to hear what other teams are willing to give up for him. I especially like what Cam and Mueller are doing by getting as many picks as they can (12), and bring some youth into our team. I especially like it because most of these picks will hopefully be spent in our offense.

since when have we had 12 draft pics??

how bout keeping hill and signing hamlin and then moveing allen to CB.....Renaldo Hill is underated and has played well

we'd have:

Saftey-Bell Hill Hamlin
CB Allen J Allen Daniels Goodman

My opinion on this situation is that we need to acquire as much talent as possible. Especially on the defensive side of the ball, we have Capers who is innovative on using his player's strengths. Having too much skill should never be an issue. One situation that I havent seen brought up is this: if we do end up bringing in Hamlin, what about moving Bell to LB, i.e. Thomas Davis in Carolina and Darnell Bing in Oakland. People say that his weakness is his speed in the secondary, so why not try to utilize him up in the box and make some plays... just a random thought but what do you guys think?

You could consider that. But Darnell Bing and Thomas Davis both weigh in the 230 lb range, while Yeremiah Bell doesn't top 205. Bell's a good player and I think he should remain at SS if Hamlin's brought in to play FS. I stated before I doubt that Allen is a 3-down CB in the NFL, maybe in Dime situations he could pull it off, but not all the time. The only scenario I see is maybe move Allen to SS next to Hamlin, again if Hamlin's brought in via getting Hill out.

Ultimately, this would've been avoided had Saban not had had such an infatuation and had actually drafted Manny Lawson, Antonio Cormartie etc...Allen may be the answer at FS, but he sure did not look like it in his limited playing time last season.

In your opinion. The general concensus among scouts is that Allen has the skills to be a pro bowl safety.

this is a good question, but before we even think about if we want Hamlin or not, we first must decide what J. Allen is (Safety or Corner) once we decide that and run with it we would see whether or not we have the need for Hamlin. Hill Trade seems good but no less than a 4th (a starter actually shouldnt go no less than a third), but we would have to do this before signing hamlin b/c if we sign hamlin and then try to trade Hill his trade value may decrease.

Anyone have any updates on the possible Mare to Giants trade?

A fact that nobody seems to mention here is that Hill is also very experienced at corner. Maybe we look to trade Bell if we sign Hamlin?
