Wannstedt plans to start both QBs

Regardless if you are a Feeley or Fiedler fan this is not good news. Make a damn decision Dave and live with it.

"Perhaps the reason Dave Wannstedt has declined to give either of his starting quarterbacks a season-long endorsement is because he is planning to start each at different times this year.

The weekly matchup will decide the starting quarterback -- unless one player improves so much, he becomes the clear choice.

'I called Bill Parcells and he told me, `You gotta do whatever you need to do every week in this league to win,' '' Wannstedt told Sports Illustrated. ``This will give us the best chance.''

Wannstedt said Wednesday not to read too much into the SI comments and instead concentrated on what his public stance has been since the start of the season. What is that stance?

''We've got to focus and take in each game and make each game a life of its own, a battle of its own that we have to line up with and do whatever we can as a team to try to win this week, that's what we have to do -- at every position,'' Wannstedt has said.

That clearly is not what Miami players want. Several, including tight end Randy McMichael and receiver Derrius Thompson, believe the coach should pick a quarterback and stick with him.

McMichael said Wednesday that alternating starters, ''can destroy offensive chemistry.'' Neither Jay Fiedler nor A.J. Feeley is exactly thrilled about the musical quarterbacks situation, either.

''It's kind of one of those things where we're here at this point right now and we have one guy playing this week,'' Feeley said Wednesday. ``That's how you have to approach it . . . I guess the past would show that the one-quarterback system works best.''

This is merely the writers' opinion.

Besides that, Feeley is going to make it a non issue.

So what Dave is saying, if we are playing a team that Minor and Lamar can rip for 300 yards, Jay gets the start. If we play a team where we might have to pass the ball downfield, then AJ gets the start?

No No No....Dave is just saying that Jay gets the start on our bye week.

:roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

I cant believe that Dave would do this for the whole season, even he has to know it wont work. I believe this is the stance he takes until one grabs the reigns and runs with it. I believe AJ will do just that.

If Wannstedt actually does plan to start both QBs (and to be sure, the article headline is misleading; he hardly comes out and proclaims that), he's signed his coaching death warrant.

That said, I think Wanny is trying something different here. I think he's trying to keep Feeley on his toes and avoid complacency. Wannstedt isn't a total idiot, despite what many of us think; he knows that you need consistency at QB. A lack of consistency at QB (particularly the backup QB) has cost the Phins playoff berths in the last two years.

I think it's the lack of complacency that will lead AJ to play worse, and contributed to Jay's 2 INT's last Saturday.

How can you just play your game if in the back of your mind you know you gotta do something to secure your job, like, oh, I don't know, lob it to a covered Booker and pray he catches it for a TD.

AJ has a rep for being a floater in practice. Wannstedt is probably thinking that this will get him to work a little harder. Practice well, play well, and all that.

TYPICAL DUMBSTACHE ! ! ! :fire:

"I have decided to NOT decide..." The man is a blithering idiot, and is trying to do to our beloved Fins whay he did to da Bears...:yell:

Well, maybe, but I hope it doesn't backfire and make him try to play too hard and force throws. I think what Marvin Lewis did with Palmer, giving him full confidence, is the better way. But we shall see on Sunday.

With the exception of the Feeley quote at the end, this was all said BEFORE the Titans game. I don't know why the writer had to bring up old news. I'm really beginning to wonder if they may actually want devisiveness.

Well, QB controversies sell newspapers, to be sure.
