Merged:When and HOW did you become a FinFan?

In 6th grade (the 1992 season where we lost the AFC Championship game) I randomly started watching football on TV... just something I decided to do. I remember not speaking to anyone for days after we started the season 6-0, and then lost to the friggin Colts in the final seconds. Why the Dolphins? I was born in Miami (Mercy Hospital) and moved to San Jose, California when I was 6 and since EVERYONE here liked the 49ers (the Raiders were in LA at the time) I decided that I would support my phins... the rest is history.

Growing up in California, especially in the Joe Montana most people were 49er fans..So when the 'Fins played the 49ers in the Super Bowl everybody was pulling for the 49ers..I being only 7 years old at the time decided I was not going to root for who everybody else was rooting for, thus I became a FinFan. I remember as a kid being so excited to see Dan Marino play, especially on Monday Night Football..I would finish my homework early just so I could watch the entire game.. With Dan there I never thought we would lose a game. Even when we'd be down late, I would be confident Dan would pull it off...And most often he did..After he retired, I'm still waiting for the one QB who would give me that "feeling" that he will not allow us to lose. Unfortunately that hasn't happened and I know there will never be another Marino..I just wish we get a franchise type QB soon. Lately, there hasn't been much to cheer for as far as wins are concerned, but we have a long and storied history and I know Saban and Co. will turn it around and return us to the glory our franchise deserves..Had we stuck it out with the Wanny regime a little longer I wouldn't have that confidence..Go 'Fins!!

I havent been the fan that most of you have.......when I was younger I liked the Lions (still do), the Packers, the Rams......just cause I didnt really know who to cheer for, no team really caught my eye.......but I remember the first Miami game I saw happened to be one of Ricky's first games against the Jets and he had a HUGE run......and I dont know, he just caught my eye and then I watched the rest of the game and seen Taylor and Thomas.

I loved every second of it! so Ive been a Phin Phan for about 4 years now! SO Im not as "Old School" as some of you guys lol!

I was 7. Hated the pats because they sucked and their uniforms were pretty plain and boring. Fell in love with the phins cos my older bro was a fan(because of marino, and he hates all local teams) and because I loved the fire that Marino brought to every game.. the colors/uni appealed to me also :) thats mah story

The year was 85' my brother & I were fortunate enough to make a trip to Disney World (thanks mom&dad) at that time wasn't a much a fan of anything but getting on those rides ... & getting the f**k out of boring a** Epcot Center.
While there we stayed in Miami for one week also & everything just clicked - before I went I was facinated with dolphins (as animals), my favorite color being seagreen/teal so naturally I got my first dolphins hat + jersey. All this before I knew the great history of the fin organization, so when I found out more I knew that the choice I made was solid. Don't remember what happened to the hat, but I had that jersey untill Jr. High & used it for a pratice jersey till it was completely wore out. S**t I've never looked back since those days, being on this site is pretty alright cuz I been setten silly fans of other teams straight for so long its funny. All the while I'm the only die hard fin fan I know personally, & its well documented by all who know me that I hold it down for the fins in my area & have been for a long time.

First game I ever watched was 83 playoff game against Seattle. My dad was a big Don Shula and therefore Dolphins fan. I was mesmerized by Marino throwing the ball even though they lost. Next game i watched: 84 season opener against my grandfather's Redskins and Marino had 5 TD's and went on to a decent year. I was hooked. Funny, i still like passing teams and want teams to throw it all the time. Running bores me. Except for Ronnie Brown now of course. :)

I was born a dolphin fan and im from south florida
ODE' TO ALL THE HOMETOWN FANS

I live near tampa, and I love pis$ing of the bucs fans! , but no seriously every christmas as a kid i would get dolphins jersey and shirts, and I love football so I would always play with my jerseys. PHINPHOURLIFE

it was 1971 and the fish were playing the cowboys in the super-bowl.
i was sitting next to my father and he was trying to explain football to me .
i asked about the silver team he told me they were the cowboys i said i dont like cowboys. ( the reason being i never liked westerns as a 6 year old kid) and then i asked about the white and green team. he told me they were the dolphins ( i always watched flipper as i child) so i put 2 and 2 together and wala a fish fan was born.
besides i felt real sorry for the dolphins cause they lost that sb !!!!
needles to say the next year they went undefeated!!
the rest is history

I've been raised a Dolphins fan. My dad grewup in Florida in the 70s, so he was naturally a big fan of the Phins. With my grandpa also being a a huge fan, it's been drilled into my brain. I love the Dolphins and am a pretty loud vocal supporter of them in school, on the internet, anywhere. Going to my first game this year.
