Jay Glazer is reporting. Someone could post the link, I'm in class and will link it up unless someone beats me to it. Congrats on a great career Brett Favre.

Mort says it may not be a coincidence that he retires right after Moss resigns with the Pats...

WOO HOO

About damn time... tired of hearing this guy contemplate every off season

I was thinking the same thing. He may have stayed to give it one more go if Moss came up there.

Brett Farve retires!

Chris Mortenson just came on Mike and Mike and announced it!

Good now Marino came come back....and reclaim what is rightfully his....those passing records.

FAVRE TO RETIRE
Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports that Packers quarterback Brett Favre is retiring.
The news also is being reported by the Biloxi Sun Herald, citing Favre's brother, Scott, as the source.
We'll let someone else figure out who had it first.
Glazer says that it's believed that Favre has informed the team of the decision within the past few days, and that it's not known when the team will announce it. (Maybe they were getting ready to do so last week when that "breaking news" item regarding Favre's decision to call it quits showed up on their live web site.)
But the door isn't completely closed. Writes Glazer: "Favre has made his decision and will likely make it publicly known soon. However, like in the past, Favre could wake up any day now and decide to change his mind, although that doesn't seem likely at this point."
It's amazing to us that Favre would quit after turning back the clock with a stellar 2007 campaign, especially since it ended with an interception that prevented Favre and the Packers from returning to the Super Bowl. His career deserves a much better final act, and we'll suspect that he'll be haunted by the final moments of that game for years to come.

Wow this is very surprising. I thought if anything he would do it last year, coming off a bad year and all. He had a great year last year (helped out my fantasy team a whole lot) and thought he was a shoe-in to come back. I am shocked.

Brett was and is a great ambassador of our university..

From his days of leading our team in beating Alabama after recovering from a car accident and helping us gain respectability in Southern football to breaking records left and right, Brett Farve will always be appreciated as reflective of the spirit of the University of Southern Mississippi. As an alum of USM it is a sad day but a time of appreciation for an awesome accomplishment by one of your best representatives.

Thats too bad. He had a really good year last year. I thought he would give it one more year. Guess it's time to say goodbye to another one of the greats.

I was expecting a return now that Green Bay is a top team in the NFC
