Interesting thought just popped into my mind. The current rule is that picks 1-16 can sign a contract that is a maximum of 6 years in length. Picks 17-32 can sign a contract that is a maximum of 5 years in length. Then picks 33 to the end of the draft can sign a contract that is a maximum of 4 years in length. The idea is to split the first round between 6 and 5 years and then have the rest of the draft(rounds 2-7) sign 4 year deals.
However, this year pick #32 is not in the first round, but in the second. Does that player at #32 follow the rule of picks 17-32 or does it follow the second round cutoff rule?
