Merged x5: Phins sign QB Kevin O'Conell.

This is me right now -
This is the FO right now -

Im rotflmoa right now.

We bring in a guy who is going to be competing for the #3 spot with Devlin and Brandstater. Do we need to always flip out on these depth signings? Seriously guys this is getting old.

The way I see it is who really cares about the 3rd QB signings? Whats the difference between Brandstrater and O'Connell? Probably not too much. So why are we focusing on the 3rd QB position when we should be focusing on other positions? I think the FO's priorities are extremely screwed up. Hey, we could use an upgrade at TE, how about LG? Theyre more worried about replacing the crap at the depth positions than they are at replacing the crap at the starter positions. Genius's

he can run the wildcat formation and will be kept on the final 53
say goodbye to moore or devlin

The Dolphins have agreed to a one-year contract with free agent quarterback Kevin O'Connell a team source is confirming.

Adam Scheffter of ESPN.com first reported the contract transaction.
That means the Dolphins will have five QBs in camp, which is about right for the preseason but at least one QB and probably two too many for the regular season. I'd say Tom Brandstater's status with the team is tenuous, however.

[Update: Tom Brandstater has been cut.]
O'Connell, 26 years old and about to vie for his third NFL season, was with the Jets in 2009 and the New England Patriots in 2008.

O'Connell was a third-round draft pick of the Patriots in 2008 but lasted only one year with the franchise. He was cut in the 2009 preseason when he suffered something of a meltdown in an exhibition game, throwing two interceptions while completing only 3 of 10 passes in the second half of a game against what was a backup defense.

O'Connell was picked up by the Lions who then traded him to the Jets for a seventh round pick. O'Connell was released by New York after the 2009 season.

But here's the kicker: O'Connell suffered a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder that required surgery and major rehabilitation. He did not play football in 2010.

[Update 2: Will Allen and Brandon Marshall are not practicing today.]

Our "braintrusts" are obviously trying to catch some lightning in a bottle - but all they're gonna end up with is a flickering firefly

Wow, Brandstater must really suck to get cut this early and not make a 90 man roster for the preseason.

i look at it like this

don't bring in anyone if you don't think they could be starting material..
If they need arms they can get any schmo to throw

So kevin, like what is it that shottenheimer likes to do in these situations?

So kevin, like what is it that BB likes to do in this situation?

So kevin, we just want you to learn the basic playbook and we'll take it from there.

I've heard the word Bum or he is a just another Camp Arm, but I am kind of intrigued by this move.

When he came out of college, people were talking about him potentially starting in the league. O'Connell looks the part 6'5" 235-250lbs. and has a cannon for an arm, but his mechanics and footwork needed work and his accuracy was lacking. He is going into his 4th yr in the league and we are the 4th stop on this journey, so maybe the light will go on. I know I am reaching for the edge of the cliff as am falling, but my God, our QB is Chad Henne.
