One of the biggest knocks on our secondary is lack of height, with the playoffs now out of reach I think we should start Allen at CB.

He is fast, strong, can tackle well for a DB and most importantly is 6-1.

We are pretty much set at safety with Bell tearing it up and Hill proving to be a solid playmaker.

I say let's throw Allen in at corner (a position most scouts believe he can play at a high level) and let him take his lumps ready to compete next season.

With the development of R.Hill and Y.Bell at safety they may just do that........but not until next year.

Somehow I doubt that's going to happen. I'm not saying it shouldn't, I just kind of doubt it.

next year, he needs a full offseason to develop, but i think h ecould be our starter there next year.

We really don't have that much left to play for, he should get some experience now when the season isn't on the line and he can get the rookie mistakes out of his system. I'd also like to see something of Fred Evans since DT is going to be a competitive position when camp opens next year.

I would rather have Allen at S .... He flies around and hits well ... by next year - I think he will show that he is better than Bell ....

Also, remember that Bell is a FA after this year ... so it is conceivable that he is not resigned due to other contract offers -- so we have to be prepared and have an eye for the future ... Bell will go where the $$$$ is ... as he is not young [27+] ... we'd certainly like to have him back -- but we can't count on that happening.

Our secondary will be pretty solid next year .... as a matter of fact -- the defense will be even better -

1- there won't be a 'lot' of new faces [even on the DL] .... Only Zgonina [and maybe Traylor] most definately won't be back ....

2- everyone certainly wants a young impact OLB from FA ... because next year is ZTs last year in the middle for us ... but with an impact OLB, it will be a good one -- at least on DEFENSE !

I agree on looking at a potentail impact FA at OLB for this team. Can you imagine Adalis Thomas on this team as a 'tweener'. Even if not economically possible we can dream right? One of the vets if not two on the DL will be cut to save cap space. There will be other moves to counter these losses but no doubt Roth and Evans are in the plans for sure to spell any losses in vet personnel.

As far as Allen he is better suited at Safety. I say Bell will stay. But if not then that is why safety is still a good position to draft among our top three picks. As far as cb I don't think the FO will make a lot of moves unless they think they can land gem in the rough that they have set their sights on in the later rounds.

If saban feels that he is ready than he will. We don't know what's going on behind the scenes and must trust in the Saban.

Allen stinks. Keep him as the most highly paid special teams player in the league.

Thank you for that delightful insight. You should be getting paid for analysis like that.

Jason Allen is doing just as good as cromartie. He's pretty much doing the same that Micheal Huff's doing in Oakland too. So give the guy a break.

The Case for Jason Allen

Alright. I'm doing this to bring up a sense of reality to Jason Allen and his current sitation. Jason Allen is not a starter, like a lot of these guys i'm about to mention, but he's actually shown that he can do something when he's in there. Jason Allen will be a very good safety IMO, and by next season a lot of people on this site should be eating crow. Anyway, im going to throw some stats at you showing all the other first round picks in comparison to J.Allen.

Jason allen stats.
15 tackles. 3 asst. No sacks. 1 ints. 1 pass defense
Cromartie CB (SD)
18 tackles. 4 asst. No sacks. No ints. 4 pass defense
Whitner S (JILLS)
73 tackles. 27 asst. no sacks. 1 int. 3 pass defense.
Kelly Jennings, CB (SEA)
29 tackles. 2 asst. no sacks. 1 int. 3 pass defense
Johnathan Joseph, CB (CINCY)
36 tackles. 7 asst. no sacks. No ints. 16 pass defense (<ok, that’s pretty impressive)
Micheal huff. S(OAK)
57 tackles. 8 asst. No sacks. No ints. 0 PASS DEFENSED

Alright, so let me get this out of the way right off the bat. Notice how the guys leading in tackles are on teams with poor offenses, which means they are on Defense for extended periods of the time (Whitner, Huff). Now lets look at Huff. I believe Huff has started every game for the raiders, and look at his stat line. The man doesn't have a pass defensed! no interceptions, no sacks either. And Huff was the cream of the secondary crop in this years draft. Now i know J. Allen only has one int and only one pass defense, but atleast hes shown he can be around the ball. (Also, keep in mind that J. Allen has not started ONE GAME yet.)

The other comparison i really want to focus on is Cromartie. This is the guy everybody wanted, this is the guy everybody was upset that we didn't take instead of J.Allen. Well look, their doing pretty much exactly the same thing right now. Im not saying J. Allens better, but in no way can you say Cromarties better either.

The only guy on this list that's really seperated himself is Johnathan Joseph, whose shown an uncanny nack for breaking up passes. And the funny part is, i bet half this site has never heard of him.

Give Allen Time. he's gonna be really good, soon enough.

I did not want cromartie since he had not played at all the prior season. I thought Allen or Cromartie were reaches coming off from injury. I love how everyone talked crap when anyone mentioned Marcus Mcneil and he turned out pretty good so far.

How is he doing the same as Michael Huff in Oakland, last time I checked Huff was not pulling splinters out his azz.

i too think Jason could find his way to CB.... but that depends on who we draft/sign this next year.
