Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter was named AFC Defensive Player of the Month, the NFL announced Thursday.

In four games this month Porter has amassed 14 tackles, including 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

This is the second time Porter has won this award, but first since 2000.

The last Dolphins linebacker to win the award was Robert Jones in December 1998.

Wow, that's an honor. What is funny about that is the NE game where he got 4 sacks was in September, so he got this for his performances against San Diego, Houston, Baltimore and Buffalo.
 
he is just playing lights out man no doubt if he keeps this pace up he will break the all time sack record that would be just awesome considering the year we had last year already alot of positive talk around miami after last year.
 
He has been on a tear lately. I wish I picked him up on my fantasy team.

I truely believe his spot in the Pro Bowl is already locked in. 10.5 sacks for a linebacker through 16 games would likely get him in. He did that in just 7 games. He is likely to finish with around 20 sacks. That should probably give him the DPOTY award.
 
awesome,that's nothing but awesome,and as some of you have said...on his way to DPOY award,and quite possibly the NFLs single season sack record....

Indeed. If he keeps forcing and recovering fumbles, he will be a lock for DPOTY. An INT or 2 will only seal his spot.
