Per Palm Beach post, the Dolphins have released their first depth chart. According to Sparano, this may change at anytime leading up to the Bucs game.

Highlights:

McCown, Beck, Henne . . . the QB order

Donald Thomas is NOT the 1st string RG

Ronnie is the FIRST string RB

Ginn and Wilford are the starters at WR

Foster is Ginn's backup in the return game . . . Bess is the 3rd option

This doesn't mean much as the regular season goes . . . but its a start.

Depth Chart Released (but not all that useful)

I say not all that useful because it's obvious they went with pretty much seniority at most every position to the point where it's not reflective of what is actually going on at practice.

I'm not even talking about the QB position, though I believe in his press conference Sparano did say outright that he ordered the QBs strictly by seniority.

Anyone watching practice can tell you Donald Thomas has been working first string RG for something like four days now and judging from the reviews there from coaches, players and onlookers, he's probably not going to ever have to relinquish that job. Yet, on the depth chart, Trey Darilek is first string.

There are other examples that probably aren't reflective of what has been earned. Derek Hagan still behind Wilford and Ginn. Jalen Parmele behind Patrick Cobbs (though one could argue that one).

Dolphins Release First Depth Chart

Three things jump out at me: Josh McCown is the first-team quarterback, Trey Darilek is the first-team right guard and Reagan Mauia is the first-team fullback.
Tony Sparano made the point that this depth chart can be changed at any point this week, and to not look too much into it.
He’s mainly talking about the quarterback position, of course. He said they were listed “in order of seniority.”

I dont think this is the Depth Chart going into Saturdays Game. The whole depth chart is in seniority form except maybe the WR and RB. I think Donald Thomas will be your starting RG and Langford will probably take Roth spot. Also I see NAthan Jones starting ahead of Travis Daniels and Jalen Parmale ahead of Cobbs as well.

This doesn't seem like the "real" depth chart. I'm pretty sure if the season started today this would not be the depth chart. But it's a little useful nonetheless.

I think they dont want to show a real depth chart so the the players dont get to excited. Saturday they will be told to lineup. Like this competation does not drop. I think it is a good idea if that is the way they are thinking

I mean I actually think this WILL be the depth chart for Saturday's game . . . I mean its the first preseason game . . . u have the vets in there early . . . thats out of respect . . . the 2nd one we should see a more clear picture . . . and by the 3rd one, I definitely expect to see the guys who are winning in camp as the starters. Obviously the 4th one is more about fighting for a spot on the team.

Basically, the league forced them to come up with a depth chart...and so they put one out that meant all but nothing.

In his press conference he didn't seem very wishy-washy when asked whether this depth chart would be the one he uses for the Tampa game. He just said "No." Then he went on to explain that this thing changes every single day and he reserves the right to change his mind.

He also mentioned that they used Vonnie at OLB last week and they're using Matt Roth at OLB this week, and then when Roth goes out to OLB the press noticed that Kendall Langford has started to work with the first string.

This Langford kid may end up the highest impact rookie outside of Jake Long. Langford and Thomas...so far, you have to give those picks some high marks as far as pure rookie contribution goes.

Where is Michael Lehan? At worst I thought he would be 2nd string. But I figured he'd start over Goodman. But he's not even listed?

My observations:
1. Backup Tackle is Ndukwe or Heerspink.
2. Shawn Murphy is a backup as he is stuck behind Smiley.
3. #2 TE Martin, #3 TE Ryan, #4 TE Peele... Peele's getting cut.
4. Rod Wright is a 4th stringer. Yikes.
5. Renaldo Hill is running third string... looks like he's cut.
6. Camarillo is pretty high on the depth chart.
7. Jason Allen is finally a starter.
8. Matt Roth is a bit surprising as the starter.

The coach already said that this isn't the offical, he said that it would even change by the end of the day.
