In other unrelated threads, some of us have been chatting about whether the NFL will flex the Jets-Dolphins match-up to Sunday night and I thought I'd start a thread to discuss it here.

I poked around a little bit and this is what I know. Each network (FOX and CBS) gets to protect X games from flex scheduling each season. I don't know if CBS has used up all of their protections. According to NFL.com, next weeks game meets all the criteria to be flexed. Even if we don't get flexed, I'm sure CBS will make this their marquee, national match-up next week so most of us should see the game anyway. It's for the division title, it's for a playoff spot, it's Favre v. Pennington, it's the Dolphins miraculous turn-around and it's an NY team (biggest media market in the country). It's everything the NFL LOVES!

But, perhaps most importantly, if they flex our game it means John Madden gets to stay at home for another week! He can give the horse trailer a rest before the playoffs and the Superbowl (tonight's game is also in NY--Panthers at Giants).

Only thing is in Week 17 NBC gets to hand pick the game. Fox and CBS don't have the opportunity to block a game from being flexed. It does however get to choose which of the remaining games get moved to 4:15.

A Jets win and I think we got the Sunday Nighter.

I'll be up at 1am in London if it is, but i couldn't care less whether it is flexed or not. I will be watching regardless.

If the Jets win its a lock. If they lose, then they might go with Dallas vs. Philly should Philly beat Washington it will be a play in game. Plus if the Jets lose today, they might be out of it by next Sunday night should the Pats beat the Bills.

But, again if the Jets beat Seattle then our game is the easy choice. It will be a no brainer. Winner is division champ, loser is out.

houtz is right. NBC has an agreement with the NFL that they can hand select games after a certain point. CBS still stands to make money on the game because I'm sure NBC would have to pay CBS it's losses on a game of this magnitude. Everyone wins.

same here in Germany.. Kickoff will be at 2.30 am but to see our Fins (hopefully) get crowned AFC East Champions and being in the playoffs after 6 years - Priceless ! :)

Although I certainly hope you are right, nothing is a lock. The decision will be based on viewership and dollars. The question will be what's bigger drama? The soap opera in Dallas with the state of the Cowboys implosion not to mention T.O going against his former team and hated former QB McNabb for the final playoff spot or Pennington returning to New York to go against the team that dumped him for the AFC East? I would not at all be surprised to see our game at 4:15 and Dallas in prime time.

Two teams battling for a Division title.

One team battling for a WILDCARD.

I'd have to say with all the story lines the Fins/Jets game would bring the Eagles/Cowboys shouldn't even stand a chance.

Ive read that dallas has reached their maximum for prime time games on the year or something like that, disqualifying them from a potential sunday night match up.

If the Vikes win today and the Giants loose tonight, that game could be flexed in a battle for the 2/3 seed in the nfc.

Regardless of the games time or where it will be showed it is imperative that each Dolphins fan be watching.
If work interferes, find a new job!
If your wife interferes, find a new wife!
If where you live interferes, find a new home!

I say you should be watching no matter what... or find a new team!

Dallas and Philly cannot be flexed. Teams are allowed a maximum of 5 primetime games with one being allowed 6. Philly and Dallas both have 5 right now so it can't be flexed.

This is the kind of thing all those epic NFL Films are made of.
