Those criticizing this pick need to go root for the Jets.
How many of you actually watched Clemson's games?
He was a top 15-20 pick until a minor hernia injury.
This guy has a good motor , defends the run well and has size.

Those wanting Groves- there is a reason teams kept passing on him.

Parcells had no thought of drafting Merling because they didn't expect him to fall that far.
It was a no brainer pick.

Godfrey will be the pick tomorrow.

i was real impressed with Merling. I though he looked like a smaller but more athletic richard seymour.

Merling is 6'5, 276 pounds, 4.7 -40 speed. The weight is too low for a 3-4 lineman (300+). The height is good. The speed is ok. Need more time to evaluate if we got another Matt Roth, or someone better.

I think he's a little better then Roth Rich, and I don't think his weight is an issue

He's the best run stopping DE in this drfat period...we're lucky he fell to 32...god pick by the trifecta!

Merling will be a bad man, of our first 3 picks this was the best one

I've been a skeptic of the Merling pick, and even I think he is quite a bit better than Roth. If for no other reason Merling has a larger wingspan....

tbh, i'm not really familiar with any of the clemson players, but i'm giving parcells the benefit of the doubt.

From rotoworld:

They had their choice of Brian Brohm or Chad Henne, but went with a safe pick. Merling fell because of a recent sports hernia surgery, but he has top-15 talent. It's uncertain where he'll play (DE or OLB), but look for him to rush the passer. He may stand up at the pro level.

What is so special about Merling that really made him a 1st round projection, I trust our FO but this kinda scratches my head a little, especially when there was much more talent available

I think it was a great pick for us....seen video of him and the guy nevers stops working...he's a hard worker and a player that will make plays behind the line.

Ozzy rules!!

projects very well to both a 4-3 and 3-4 as a DE, good all around player that is non-stop hustle.

OT Clemson is gonna become DE U soon. Gaines Adams last year, Merling this year, in the next year or so you've got Ricky Sapp, and they have an incoming freshmen DaQuan Bowers who is going to be a top 5 pick if he lives up to his potential.

I believe Merling will be a 3-4 OLB. He's got the ideal size and good enough speed.

i live in maryland and i watch a lot of clemson games im a huge terps fan and manning is a great player and when he gets a bit stronger and learns the game more man we got a steal!
