i think that Merling is a great player but if he cant play olb i dont realy agree with that pick, pat simms in the 3rd or trevor laws are better 3-4 de IMO. if he plays de then we can expect a lot of our guys to be cut, and if he is de, what position is the kid we just draft in the 3rd-joe McNoName?

DE. expect Merling to be a bit bigger when the season starts (over 300)

He's going to play DE. I don't know why anyone would think otherwise.

Langofrd was brought in for two reasons:

Stuff the run alongside Merling...

And to have an excuse to cut Roth and Holliday's a$$'s!

DE....thats he's best position

Look at Parcells last job and how he drafted and staffed the positioins.

OLB's...

Greg Ellis 6'6 270
DeMarcus 6'4 260

DE's
Chris Canty - 6'7" 295
Marcus Spears - 6'4 300

If you can't tell which category Merling falls into at 6'5" 272 , maybe its time to get your eyes checked or do some research into the 3-4.

Lankford will compete at RE, Merling will compete at LE. Obviously Rodrique Wright
now knows he's no longer on scolarship and Matt Roth knows his career is now hanging
on by it's fingernails.

Merling (6-5, 272), recovering from sports hernia surgery, impressed in a 45-minute workout, sources at Clemson said. About half the league sent representatives to Clemson, and Merling is considered "a pretty safe pick," one scout said.

Im glad we stole him before the Skins !

Are my eyes good? I think he's going to be a OLB and Langford will be a DE.

OLB. No brainer.

Merling would be a speed bump as a 2 gap NFL 3-4 DE.

Folks need to realize DE in the 3-4 and DE in a 4-3 are completely different skillsets.
