Did he play? Pretty sure he was active but never saw him. Other than Wilford being a total bust by Parcells Merling hasnt really shown much, esp for a 1st rounder. Well technically, since NE lost their 32nd overall pick to spygate and Merling was next. basically the last pick of the 1st round. I know hes still young and a rookie before everyone who cant stand critcism jumps on me. But he really hasnt done much this year and today was the 1st game I didnt even see him on the field. Not a good sign for the 32nd pick overall.

he has played solid football , in the 3-4 systems the DEs will take the blocks and the LB will get the tackles, sacks, and love.

First off, I saw him out there quite a bit . . . secondly, when u hold Denver @ home to only 7 yards rushing . . . . that means the whole front 7 gets an A today . . . and that includes Merling.

Yea the other posts are correct.....being n end in a 3-4 you do a lot of work and get very little recognition. he is doing very well Langford is a little ahead of him but Langford played in a 3-4 in college so he is used to the double teams. Merling, Langford and Starks are all play well.

Richard Seymour is considered one of the best 3-4 linemen if not one of the best linemen period and his best statistical season was 34 tackles and 8 sacks.

Your not gonna see many sacks from him or Langford, expect 5-7 a year, with anything more being pretty good.

Our OLB's will put up the sacks. If Matt Roth was faster and had longer arms he'd be closer to Porter....cough cough Roth is a backup (I think he'd be an AWESOME backup for the next 5 years, great depth but not a starter). He did have a huge tipped pass late in the game.

Roth is an asset in the run D, but a liability on pass D. Shanahan was making him look bad flaring that FB in the flats, he had this as a big part of his gameplan.

Yea I understand it will take time, esp for a rookie in the 3-4. But I didnt realize he played so much yesterday, I havent missed a game since 84 and prob not a play, and didnt remember seeing him out there. Definetely didnt hear his name called.

i have seen merling play solid football. he stops the run but he is still learning football at this level.

Merling is gonna be just fine!!! Lets just look at it this way, instead of wondering whats wrong with Merling (who has been playing fine by the way) Langston has been playing "lights out." We need to see this as an extra positive instead of wondering whats wrong with Merling.
