He was being inducted into the African American Sports Legends hall of fame. I got a picture, autograph, and talked to him briefly. Turns out he was on an undefeated 8th grade football team, an undefeated 1969 University of Toledo football team (also captain), and of course the 1972 Dolphins.

I remember Curtis...
If anyone can recall that horrible Monday night late 70s when Earl Campbell ran all over us, Curtis is the last one who was grasping at Earl's back before Earl broke away for like an 80 yard TD.
Sad those are the things that stick in our minds- like Don McNeal getting plowed by Riggins- when those two guys were good players.

To be entirely fair, any CB would have a tough time tackling Earl. Even in those days when corners were a bit more physical generally speaking.

Before my time, but even I know that man was a truck.

Sure. Curtis was a good player on the boundary for the 70’s for us. Don McNeal slipped coming across the formation Pre snap and met Riggins in the hole but he was so off balance. Had he not slipped in not sure he brings him down short of the 1 yard needed for the first (though he did hit him prior to the line to gain) but it’s safe to say it probably doesn’t go for a long TD either.

Curtis Johnson was a good DB. Definitely had the best afro of the '70s.
The decade of the Afro.

We had a substitute Teacher in gradeschool named Mr O'Brian...Nothing better then seeing an extremely blond Afro on your very Irish looking Substitute when your a preteen in grades school.

Always felt so sorry for that guy, and what awaited him for that last month and a half that he took over our class for...I heard he got out of teaching.

We have something in common. In 1979, I was on a team that went undefeated at the family BBQ.
