March 2, 2007-The Miami Dolphins today tendered four of its restricted free agents, including safety Yeremiah Bell (pictured), punter Donnie Jones, quarterback Cleo Lemon and wide receiver Wes Welker. Bell, Lemon and Welker were tendered at the level of second-round draft choice compensation. Jones was tendered at the level of his original draft status (7th round). The team also tendered long snapper John Denney and fullback Kyle Eckel, both exclusive rights players.

Good. A second round tender should be enough to scare off other teams and nail down Miami's young players.

Looks like Miami wants to keep Lemon. Miami is probably not drafting QB in the first couple rounds this year unless they get a steal.

That's how you interpret the tendering of Lemon? Got news for you, this has absolutely no impact on the way the phins use their 1st day picks. If Quinn drops to 9, Cameron will jump at him.

With all the QB desperate teams above Miami, I would be surprised if Quinn fell to #9. If the GMs above #9 have the same opinion of Quinn that I do and Quinn free falls to #9, then why would Miami want to pick him there?

It was revealing when Linehan was asked if Russell was another Culpepper and Linehan responded that he could not say that until Russell had been to three Pro Bowls like Culpepper.

Quinn is no Russell. Quinn = Harrington. They both miss 2-3 wide open receivers each game.

Miami is not wasting the money to tender Lemon at a second round pick if they intend him to be a #3 QB. A #3 QB would get tendered with a second day pick. As a point of comparison, Minny is reportedly offering a second round pick for Matt Schaub to start.

I posted awhile back that I thought Miami might use a second round pick to get Stanton. However, after this tender, that second round pick would have to be the one Miami got from another team signing Lemon.

I was curious what Cam thought of Lemon after he languished at #3 in SD for awhile. Was Lemon just stuck behind two excellent high pick QBs or did Cam think he was no better than a #3 QB. We just got our answer. In fact, Cam may allow Lemon to compete for the start.

if we dont bring in any studs i want to see some quality depth coming in with the likes of napoleon harris, a gaurd dont have names because the 3 i wanted are gone already, depth at wr, secondary depth and i think we go landry or best player available. A player like landry falling to ten is rediculous hes a cross between ed reed and sean taylor and he would help one of the worst secondarys in the league then draft one of the top gaurds or a center in rd 2 or 3. hopefully we can land porter also prob not gonna happen.

Equating Quinn to Harrington just shows you have no idea what you are talking about. There is very little similarity between the 2 except they played the same position in college. Quinn has had a longer, more consistent career, is physically stronger and has played in a pro style offense.
If you believe that Lemon has a future beyond a backup role on this team you are dreaming. Lemon was tendered precisely because the Phins don't know what version of DC will show up at TC and there is no guarantee that BQ will be around with the 9th pick.

Harrington's arm is fine. His inability to read the field is the similarity I see with Quinn.

You are correct that Quinn played in Weis' pro system and he did not play well against anything approaching a quality defense at the college level. Why then does Miami want to throw him against the above average defenses in our pro division? Quinn would not be ready for a couple years at best.

Finally, I did not suggest that Lemon will start. This is Culpepper's job until he is knocked off. However, a second round tender of the kind traded for starters tells me that Lemon is considered to be the #2 and possible QB of the future. It would not surprise me at all if Cam set up a QB competition between Culpepper and Lemon to goose Culpepper and see what Lemon could do with the first team.

Lemon is going to be the 2nd QB. Now all we need is a 1st QB.

This Russell kid from LSU has a great arm, but he's only a junior. Does he really have what it takes upstairs to make it int he NFL?? IMO, Brady Quinn is the best QB coming out in the draft this year.

Giving Daunte a free pass this year is okay because of his injury, but keeping Joey around will make me scratch my head.
