young hyped running back who only to excel as a reciever?

wow, could you be anymore "special"? a second year running back, who by the way had 2 running td's, was playing the defending superbowl champs. you know the STEELERS, one of the top d's in the league

you've got to be kidding me

This is NOT a bend don't break defense ...

The defense for the LAST 20 YEARS has been a bend don't break defense !!!

This defense WILL be top 10 this year ... just give it a couple weeks ...

Also, we DON'T have ANYONE in our secondary as good as TROY VINCENT right now ...

VINCENT and SURTAIN were our best CORNERS -- EVER !!!

The OL will get better ... some combination of JACOX, HADNOT & BERGER will make the line better

I thought Randall Hill got traded before the start of the season to Arizona for a 1st?

Urrrgh !! Why did you have to post that name J.B Brown ? Thanks for bringin back horrid memories.. And my friends used to make alot of jokes about Aubrey Beavers

'94 was a year to remember. Loved that team. An offensive machine. Most points scored after 'Boys and 'Niners. First vivid memories I have about the Phins. We had just come off a disappointing '93 season where we had lost our last 5 games and a fellow named Marino. We ended up losing a heartbreaker to the Chargers in the divisional playoffs with Stoyanovich missing as time expired. I wept like the baby I was.

As for the comparison...I have a lot more faith in Ronnie Brown than I did in Bernie Parmalee (who was the number 1 back), I only wish we had a veteran presence like Irving Fryar on our receiving corps to show the ropes to Derek Hagan, Keith Jackson is a similar player to Randy Mc, we had Richmond Webb, Keith Simms and an up and coming center named Tim Ruddy protecting Dan, we have nothing resembling a young Tim Bowens and for all their overachieving Marco Coleman or Jeff Cross did not have the burst or aura of Jason Taylor. I do see similarities between both secondaries if you consider that Travis Daniels will build on last year and become a modern day Troy Vincent. And that both teams safety play is subpar with Yeremiah Bell and Tavares Tillman the equivalent of Gene Atkins and Michael Stewart. But that's about it.

Yeremiah Bell and Tavares Tillman the equivalent of Gene Atkins and Michael Stewart

The thing about Gene Atkins at safety is he was very good at stopping the run and could really hit.

Didn't Jim Mandich label him Gene "hit man" Atkins at some point ?

Couldn't tell you but appears he was somewhat of a loose cannon. That 'hit man' nickname might have been a subtle reference to his off field antics. He was solid in that '94 season but eventually short circuited, attacking a reporter in the locker room. He lost his job in favour of Louis Oliver and JJ, tired of all the antics, waived him in the middle of the '96 season.

We hope that the running game will show up and we hope that our defense is better. But from what we have seen the make up of the two teams are very similiar. All pass no running game, big arm QB, Big Backs who excell as recievers. And average defense that bends but breaks ( not bend but dont break ).
