I take a look at these guys and I just don't see a "must-sign" well maybe Langford. If this team could upgrade most of these players, we can be really good next year.

CB Will Allen

Allen is an extremely likeable player and was at one time a great corner for the Dolphins, but at his age and with his injury history, it's fair to wonder how much he has left. Allen has shown this season that he's little more than a veteran backup and the team likely would have moved on for good if not for the struggles of Benny Sapp (since released) and Nolan Carroll, as well as Vontae Davis' hamstring injury.

OG Vernon Carey

While he's only 30, it's fair to wonder if Carey's days as an NFL starter are pretty much over. The Dolphins actually got an impressive performance from 2010 third-rounder John Jerry at right guard in Week 14 and thus might be more inclined to move on. Carey remains an option as a short-term fix, but the former first-round pick is a mediocre talent at this point and the Dolphins will probably look for a cheaper and younger alternative.

Merling is actually a restricted FA. He only played three games in 2010 and didn't get credit for a full year towards free agency.
I consider Soliai a must to have back and I think Langford is key as well.

I think Mitchell has earned a new contract as a backup. Did a good job whenever he came into the game. Would love to see Big Paul, Langford, and Sexy Lexy back but if we switch to a 43 the first 2 aren't really as important to resign and Lex is all opinion (he was a college teammate of Brandon Fisher so maybe he stays).

Not committing to anybody else.

resign soliai but dont over pay. langford again dont over pay.
would like to get allen back for nickel, but we have some young pups that need to step up. culver wasnt great and he wasnt awful, but when he started games the secondary played better. these two and the rest are expendable tho

Keep Langford, Soliai, and Will Allen. Culver is a good backup, but I wont be devastated if hes gone.

Whatever about the rest.

I never want to see Henne in a phins uniform again.

Everyone keeps on saying that when we get Fisher we will for sure move to a 4-3. Is there any proof of that or are we just speculating? I could see Fisher keeping Nolan......resign Langford and big Paul

This is actually from my blog here, but I was mistaken on a few of them. As someone said, Merling if an RFA. The complete and accurate list of Dolphins free agents is:
Unrestricted FAs

Restricted FAs

Exclusive-Rights FAs

Merling could stay for cheap and could start or back up at LDE.

We will go to a 4-3 once Fisher is hired and moved Starks and Odrick inside.

Not sure who we'd have at RDE, but Wake could do it if we need him to.

So that means Soliai won't be resigned (although he's be a bad *ss 1 Technique DT) and Langford is probably expendable as well.

Mitchell would be nice to have back for cheap.

Allen is probably gone and would like to see Carey come back for cheap and he may give us the hometown discount again.

All other UFAs are likely gone.

If we go to the 3-4, all our defensive linemen become defensive tackles and the only pass-rushing end we have is Wake. Really going to need another rusher--it's been two years having just one.

Lets say we do switch to a 4-3..... why does that mean we have to bail on Paul Solai. I have very few doubts that he would be a monster inside as a 3 technique.
Vince Wilfork had to deal with a mid season change and thrived. Even the bum Albert Haynesworth was a wrecking ball under fisher as a 3 technique. The notion that switching to a defense automatically means that Solai and Langford are now expendable or that starks will for sure move inside... are a tad bit premature.
Talent is talent... no matter what system they are in. could see all 3 being major players in any defense we decide to run

Merling could play LDE in a pinch in a 4-3. He played it in college and could easily slim down 15 lbs to be a bit quicker.

IMO, if we move to a 4-3, we draft a pass rusher early or bring a veteran in FA.

McDaniel would would be a good back up DT and Langford would be nice as a backup too.

No need for Soliai, he would cost way too much money.

It's not that we'd HAVE to bail on Soliai. But at defensive tackle we'd have Starks, Odrick, McDaniel (if he's not cut), Merling and potentially Langford (who would come far cheaper than Soliai). So I'd consider him much less likely to be re-signed in the 4-3. The need to pay that much just isn't there.

If you've seen Merling lately, you'd know he's much closer to nose tackle size than 4-3 defensive end size. I'd guess he weighs at least 310. He has no pass rusher left in him.
