Miami Dolphins 2014 2nd round pick- Jarvis Landry

I love this pick!

People who are complaining about speed, please remember how Ginn and Clyde Gates did as pure receivers for us. Sure they have the speed but could they catch? could they get YAC?

Landry is a great receiver. He wasn't really in my thoughts for Miami because i think we have a lot of what Landry brings already in Gibson. Allen Robinson would have been amazing, but Landry is a terrific receiver with a lot of overlapping skills to what we have, Imo. Better separation though, a bit like Stedman Bailey of last year in the way he creates separation with crafty running rather than blazing speed.

let's forget about his 40 time. It's not like he is a receiver or anything. Short slow receivers are real difficult to find in a very deep WR class. So what if he will struggle to get PT and so what if his QB can't find Wallace more than twice a game even though he is open constantly. The important thing is that apologist for Hickey a.k.a. Ireland 2.0 are out defending him and happy.

So all WRs with 40 yd dash times under 4.3 are hall of famers? And those who are slower can't play in the league?

Jerry Rice's 40 yard dash time was 4.7
Wes Welker's 40 yard dash time was 4.65

40 yard dash times only get you so far. How many "fast" WRs never had a successful career in the NFL? I'll take someone that catches everything you throw at him over pure speed.

his hands remind me of oronde, I can take that. plus he seems to stay upright after catching. I love hartline, but hartline goes down a lot right after catching....granted a lot of it is cause of having to adjust to a pass. if this draft doesn't make tannehill better than im sure we don't pick up the "expensive year", between FA and draft we've gotten him an OL of albert, (shelly), pounce, turner, james. a true TE (who can also catch), Moreno, clay to sub in, and a starting wr corp of Wallace hartline and landry. I think Gibson is odd man out, even though he's still gonna see a lot of playing time. with landry, binns should be gone (or practice squad if avail along with hazel) I don't see Landry taking Hartlines spot, Hartline is best on the outside routes despite his foot speed. landry looks like he has more of the inside moves to take gibsons spot. Our picks and our offseason seam to be giving a tannehill a chance to show he's the man, which is what we really want to know. "we got you a new offensive line that we've invested money and top picks in, we got you a stud RB, we drafted you a stud WR" SO Landry, help show tannes talent and catch every dang pass thrown your way

And we now have a receiver on the roster who includes blocking in his own resume. I'm sick of watching Hartline, Wallace and co do the bare minimum in downfield blocking. With a lot of pre-snap movement, shorter routes, crossing routes , sweeps and wheels than we've had before, the Lazor offense needs receivers who will actively and commitedly block to open running lanes. For that reason amongst others, I can see Landry being a starter from Week 1.

Yeah, when one considers that Lazor and Kelly were utilizing one WR to pick off a DB creating space for the other WR crossing, the Landry pick makes a whole lot of sense.

So, they get a guy with great hands, fearless, good downfield blocking, and who is able and eager to set/run a pick for his fellow WR's.

I think Gibson and Wallace are going to love this guy. Gibson because he will most often be the beneficiary, and Wallace because it will let him get the ball more often in space where he can showcase his running ability. It will also keep the DB's unsure whether he is going deep.

what is with some of the fans talking about the "lazor offense"? what exactly is that?

NO ONE KNOWS!! you know why? we havnt seen it run yet!! this isnt going to be anything like his college offense [according to him], he is incorporating what he already liked combined with some chip kelley and being based in the wco. thats all from HIM!!!

so, untill we see how that is run, all this "well, in the lazor offense, you gotta have la-dee-da-dee-daw is POINTLESS and based on nothing. at the end of the year, then we can all start talking about the LAZOR offense. pretty odd folks talking about the personnel and strategy of an offense NO ONE has seen yet.

Fair point, but there have been some quotes from players etc which give some pointers, plus what he's said himself and what he ran with Chip.

He's on record as wanting to move receivers around and having multi-receiver formations. It's not a massive leap of faith to imagine what routes that entails and - even if he was running the Wing T - we still need a blocking receiver on the roster.

There is a big difference between track speed and football speed. Once Landry hits the football field, his pure route running ability will make up the difference. Look at Jerry Rice coming out of Southern Mississippi. He did not have blazing speed. But he WOW you on the football field.
