Miami Dolphins: 4 late-round picks ready for immediate impact

The olinemen are interesting prospects. I don’t expect much from Doaks. Trill has a lot of catching up to do if he wants to see the field, but you can never have enough DBs.

It really seems Grier and the whole scouting department found gems that slipped through the cracks at every level this year. If they all pan out to be as advertised, the final 53 will be super competitive at nearly every position.

I get kind of giddy at the possibilities sometimes. My only wish would be for the media to keep off the bandwagon.

While I want to get excited about all these guys, it's such an uphill battle to make the 53 man roster. As for the oline... right now i'm going back and forth on if the team team keeps 8 or 9 olinemen. Obviously Hunt, Kindley, Jackson and Eicheberg are close to locks to make the roster. The two centers Deiter and Skura should be close to locks too. That leaves Fluker, Davis, Elumeneur, Pankey, Coleman and Jones fighting for two or three spots. Hard for me to picture both a 7th round pick and an udfa beating out 3 vets with starting experience.

As for Trill Williams seems like a good prospect, but how many dbs are they going to keep? Assuming Howard gets things resolved, Howard, Byron Jones, Igbinoghene, Rowe, Holland and Brandon Jones are locks. That leaves Williams fighting Needham, McCourty, Coleman, Perry, FeJedelem and a few others for just a handful of spots too.

My takes:

The goal for Doaks is to open the season on the roster as our 4th RB. He'll play special teams and rarely see the field otherwise. As the season progresses, it would be nice to see him slowly surpass Brown for the role of short yardage back/red zone threat. In 2022, he'd assume that role full time as Brown will not return.

Williams: Open the season as 4th safety and full time member of special teams. Become the full time kickoff or punt returner. See some snaps as a dime back while we decide if he can be expected to be our third safety for 2022 when we trade or release Rowe.

Coleman/Jones: One of them open the season on the roster as our 9th Lineman, while the other is waived and hopefully not claimed by another team so he can move to the practice squad. The man who wins this shake will be inactive on most weeks, only playing in case of disaster. One (or both) returning in 2022 and replacing Fluker or Eluemunor on the roster... and possibly taking a real run at Kindley's starting spot or Davis's 6th man job.

More would be great... but the odds of any of these being ready right away are slim. If all four stuck, that would be a good result.

Trill Williams is an interesting UDFA prospect. I live near Syracuse, NY and I go to football games a few times a year (plus I follow the team). He is a versatile DB with good size that can play outside, slot and FS. I would be pretty surprised if he doesn’t make the 53 man roster as a depth/ST guy this season. Multiple articles I have read said some kind of injury concern is what stopped him from being drafted early-mid day 3.

If Williams is the 4th safety, I take it the top 3 are Holland, Rowe and Brandon Jones. Does that mean you have them cutting McCourty or moving him back from safety to corner? I'm thinking if Williams is going to push for a 53 man roster spot he might need to push and beat out Nik Needham. Of course so much in the secondary depends on how the Howard holdout plays out. Would be interesting of Williams stays at corner. You would have Howard, Jones and Coleman in the slot starting at corner with Igbinoghene as the young Howard aprentience and Williams learninging behind Jones.

Honestly, I hope McCourty doesn't play at all. Whether we call him 5th safety or 5th CB, I think his value is on the practice field and in the film sessions.
Last year, we carried Fejedelem, but he only saw 15 snaps all season, and Kavon Frasier (who saw 48 snaps)... McCourty replaces these two.

fejedelem had 313 snaps on ST. Does McCourty play ST?

I saw this article a few days ago. It seems like there are more than few article out there talking up Doaks and Trill Williams. For arguments sake, if these 4 kids somehow make an impact by either making the team out right or the practice squad, the F/O would have done an excellent job finding young talented kids to develop.

Coleman may be more than a developmental type according to an article I read just after the draft. Miami paid Jones like a late round pick, so they like him. They got to work with him at the senior bowl, indicating they targeted him. Only time will tell. But these two kids got a chance to play in the NFL. How much depends on them.

Trill Williams seems like glove fit for a Flores defense. Miami kept 10 DB's these last 2 seasons, so I think Williams make the team outright as the 4th safety and 10th secondary player on the roster.

Doaks stands a real chance because he blocks very well in the passing game and is a load running the ball. High hopes for him. But you never know. Nice find late in the draft.

I'm very curious about Jones and Williams. I never scouted either of them so it's not based on my evaluation, but I've heard some nice positives from evaluators whose opinions I respect. Doaks may supplant Ahmed and Laird, but I don't expect he'll be a gem or anything that makes us think the RB room is set for the future.

Functional word is "immediate." while we all have our opinions, know one can guarantee any low round rookie will get significant snaps the 1st few games. I think Doaks is most likely to get many snaps early, so he's my guess by default.

If Miami ends up trading X. Howard, Trill has a shot. Most likely a practice squad candidate.

Both offensive linemen have a chance to stick. Doaks is interesting. Right now his chances look good, but I wouldn't be surprised if Miami picked up a veteran running back.
