DAVIE — The Miami Dolphins are signing Brandon Doughty to practice squad, according to an NFL source.
Doughty was drafted by the Dolphins in the seventh round and made the initial 53-man roster, but the team needed his roster spot after a series of injuries, particularly to defensive players.
Ryan Tannehill and Matt Moore are the other Dolphins quarterbacks. Doughty beat out Zac Dysert in a close quarterback competition, though Doughty had the edge in the end because he was a draft choice of this regime.
Doughty had a strong start to camp and then faded as the preseason progressed. Still, the Dolphins view Doughty as a worthwhile developmental player and are surely glad he cleared waivers.
