Miami: For all the progress made last season, Sparano knows there's still a long way to go to join the NFL's elite.
"We knew when we walked in the door this was going to be a two-, three-year deal to get it exactly the way we want it," he said. "We know we need a lot of pieces. There are a lot of needs right now we need to address. We'll keep banging away, trying to address them through the draft, maybe free agency. We may not get them all answered right now."
Friday's re-signing of right tackle Vernon Carey helps the offensive line, but Miami needs help at center, nose tackle, inside linebacker and probably defensive back, where starters Yeremiah Bell, Ronaldo Hill and Andre Goodman will become free agents if unsigned by Friday.
