It’s not going to be a big-name guy signing a deal for mega-bucks. It’s not going to be Dontari Poe if he’s got three other teams engaged in a bidding war for him, because the Dolphins aren’t going to get into a bidding war for him or any other defensive tackle.

And it most definitely will not be Dont’a Hightower (sad Mando face) because he is expensive and, the overall point here in case you didn’t catch it is, the Dolphins aren’t wading into the expensive deep end of what remains in the free agency talent pool.

Think bargain.

Confirmation that were down to bargain shopping at this point.

Koa Misi is still on the roster but I’m told that could change in the next couple of months and even if it doesn’t, he’s not the guy the Dolphins want to be banking on going into the season. If he’s on the roster, he’ll be there as insurance and at a lower number (pay cut coming) than his current $4.778 million scheduled cap charge.

So, yes, I’m reporting the Dolphins will either cut Misi or ask him to take a pay cut. (I got a little overzealous a couple of weeks ago wondering why Misi was still on the roster at $4.778 million. It happens. I’m Cuban so I don’t do relaxed very well. The Dolphins, meanwhile, have it handled).

On the much asked question why is Misi still here? Perfect explanation.

god I hope they don't burn a top 54 pick on a 2 down strong side backer

Ahhh so now we can report stuff and play off being wrong to "I'm Cuban and overzealous".

Got it Armando.

And Miami does have this under control. They aren't cutting Misi unless he has an injury setback. He is the only in house SLB on the roster and when he is cleared Miami will worry about a paycut . . . Or make him June 1st cut or let him in camp and dump before the season. Either way we still get the cap savings.

Miami wants to roll over at least 10 million in cap for 2018, which is why you shouldn't expect any more big signings.

I don't quite understand the logic with Larsen. Instead of hoping he can take the reins and start, why not sign someone who you know will start?

Because like Mando said, the team doesn't want to spend big on a guard. I think they saw NE last year getting good guard play for cheap and they think they can do the same. Time will tell but I'm not holding my breath.

Ozzy rules!!

I'm all for this strategy - if they can keep him around at a minimal price, FO can then shop prudently for his replacement or insurance policy. If he's healthy and can play (supposed to be cleared 100% in May), we're still in much better shape than 2016, so can head into draft going full on BPA. Until there is a better option on the roster at sam, i'd rather see Misi stick around.

MIAMI said they only have $19m left in cap space.

And 10 of that goes to the draft picks and in season moves so we really don't have much left. I believe at best we'll make one more move in free agency and then after the draft they might do something after the June cuts

I believe we're going DE at 22 but at 54 I really don't know. Could be LB, FS or even o-line. They will draft a LB thought. Timmons is 2 years and done so they will draft one for sure.

I don't know a thing about NE's guards. Were they expected to start and be decent while being "cheap"? Or did they luck into it?

Here's all you need to know: Dante Scarnecchia.

One of the best offensive line coaches in the history of the game. BB pulled him out of retirement last year to come back after their o-line struggled for a few years.

Our actual rookie pool isn't that much this year.
