You could have said this about Dan Marino, John Offerdhal, Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas, Tim Bowens, Ricky Williams. I could go on, but you get the point.

Dolphins safety Reshad Jones talks to the media after OTAs in May.

Straight talk: Jones turned 30 in the offseason, hitting a milestone that often gets people wondering how much more players have left to give to this game.

To anyone who has watched Jones, it’s obvious he has been one of the Dolphins’ best draft picks in recent years, steadily improving his physical style until reaching Pro Bowl status.

Reshad will be fine next Minkah. I honestly think that's the reason for drafting a young safety that high. I think they'll compliment each other well. Reshad won't have to cover as much ground and he'll be able to make the plays he's supposed to with Minkah being over the top of the deep threats.

I have this dream that we are deep in the playoffs and reshad picks off a pass and returns it for a Td and becomes a household name. I can hear the announcers yelling “reshad Jones! What an amazing play!” A guy can dream can’t he?

Reshad is certainly one of my favorite players of recent years. I was a fan before we drafted him so I was excited to land him in the 5th round.

Because of the position he plays I think it's possible to get 3-4 more years of quality out of him with the bolstering of the secondary.

As giddy as Ryan Tannehill should've been with the addition of Mike Gesicki, Reshad should've felt the same way about adding Minkah Fitzpatrick. I can say without question I wouldn't trade our safeties for any pair in the league.

If you look at the success of Denver and Seattle in recent year along with what Minnesota and Jacksonville did last year because of their secondary's, we can follow that mold especially if we get great play out of RT.

It's long been assumed that a great pass rush can help make a secondary and that's certainly true but i think a great secondary can do more to help generate a pass rush.

And the Cubs wasted the Ernie Bank years and every team wasted the Charles Barkley years and the list goes on and on. Far better players than Jones have never won a championship.

I hate to deliver the bad news but this is probably his last year with us. Look for a 7th rd pick for him next year. His contract jumps to 16 million in 19’ and we have his carbon copy in McDonalad at 6 million. I fully expect to see Mc Donald and Fitzpatrick on the back end for the next 5 years.
