I suppose that’s the reason some of you write me to scold me when I say the Miami Dolphins must draft a defensive end in the first round of this coming draft -- and thus that’s the position that leads off this annual series of posts. I suppose you don’t get me because you reply to my twitter post with snark when I say no mock draft can be taken seriously unless it has the Dolphins taking a defensive end in the first round.

I suppose you don’t get me when you call radio shows or write letters to the editor or send smoke signals or loose carrier pigeons with messages suggesting the Dolphins should draft a guard, or a linebacker, or a cornerback or a safety, or even pick a quarterback in the first round (seriously, folks?)

WOW, what a RICHARD......... stop reading after the first paragraph.

Just such an obvious need. Interesting that he mentions the bigger guys like Charlton and Walker. It may be true that the Dolphins have to settle for less size there, although I believe Walker is more of a second round projection.

He spends a good portion of the article insulting his readers. Meh. Must be a slow cycle. Those clicks aren't going to click themselves. Time to generate some silliness and mock anger.

It's the only case unless Reddick is on the board. Can't make a single argument for any other position.

Still didn't read though because it's Armando.

the need for a PASS RUSHER is obvious. Branch and Hayes don't offer much in that regard. all we got is Wake

Sounds good in theory but what happens when there's a run on pass rushers and Garrett, Thomas, Barnett, Willis and Taco are gone? Are you going to reach for a second round talent or a 3-4 OLB because of need? I don't think so.

then I'm probably gonna take lamp

I don't disagree but if all of those guys are gone, I think that Charles Harris is still an option as a 43 DE that can potentially be a 10 sack per season guy.
If the top SIX ends are gone then I'd go to Lamp, Jarrad Davis, Melifonwu, or a trade down.

People are worried that Harris isn't a super athlete because he ran 4.82. Let me tell you something about the 40. It's bull****. Ed Reed ran 4.57 and he's probably the best Free Safety ever.
I don't give a **** how fast a football player can run 40 yards in a straight line while wearing undies. Once the pads go on and you're actually involved in a play on the field, it is absolutely nothing like running a straight line at the combine.

EDIT : How could I forget Haason Reddick? I'd take him over most of the ends, and any linebacker.

see what the return is to drop to 28 or 30 or so but in the end going there with the scenario you've dropped isn't gonna give me any de value either...and if im in the top 25 and stuck im taking a top 25 grade player...period

which means for me no de, no safety, lamp only interior I would take, I don't see the corner value being there as of late those kids are getting pushed up,

I guess I'd have to hope lamp was there if I cant get out

To me, our first 3 picks MUST be a combination of DE, G, LB, S based on both need and value.
In a perfect world, we nab Haason Reddick round 1, nab a good DE prospect round 2 like a Demarcus Walker, and then hopefully a Josh Jones or Marcus Maye falls to us round 3. If not, take the best available guard prospect there.

****in Christ we should have signed a better guard.

you guys really think SIX DEs are coming off in the first 21?? I don't.

Entirely possible.

It's the second or third most valued position in the game and this year's class is LOADED. In most years, Demarcus Walker is a top 20 pick I'd think.
This year, he's an afterthought because of the stupid amount of first round talent at pass rusher.

New mock... with a corner.. I said no way in the beginning not as sure anymore. Especially if all the DE's are gone.

If we go corner, he damn well better be the BPA by a large margin.
