Good article about the new Head Coach, pretty enlightening...

But McCarthy knew about Philbin.

"I'd kept a list of coaches I'd been following and he was on that list," McCarthy said. "He had a very good reputation with the people who had worked with him. ... When I had a chance to sit down and interview him I was very impressed from day one."

McCarthy not only kept Philbin, he promoted him to offensive line coach. And when offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski left a year later, McCarthy promoted Philbin to that job, where he remained until he was named the 10th head coach in Dolphins history Jan. 20

I'm very impressed with Philbin. His ability to put together a great staff and his vision for the team is something we have been missing for decades!!! All we need is the Franchise QB and we can compete for years to come.
 
Hopefully he makes deep impressions as our HC and wins Super Bowls with us.
 
I was on the Fisher band wagon all along...I have to admit, i was most likely wrong. Love everything I read about Coach Philbin. Not sure who made the call Ross or Ireland but i firmly believe they got this one right.
 
Just be glad it wasn't McCoy. Dude went crying to the media and made false statements. Reminds me too much of Kiffin.
 
Philbin was my man all along. was worried when son died. Didnt think he was coming then.
 
Great article. I think we have a thoughtful coach, which will be a refreshing change.
 
I think it will be a difficult process to change a culture to one like Green Bay's. There are a lot of distractions down here in South Florida and I can see players having a tough time buying in. I maybe ignorant, but I don't see players getting into loads of trouble in Green bay. I just hope the fans will give the guy time to purge and change things around. I also would like to see how he handles some of Marshall's tantrums.
 
Everyone who's crossed his path seems to hold Philbin in the highest esteem both professionally and personally. Based on his reputation, demeanor, perceived intelligence and the many bonds forged over the years, he definitely impresses as the kind of coach who will attract desirable FAs.

I was in the "I don't want Fisher, but there could be worse options so que sera sera" camp. After seeing him set up a figurehead GM reporting to him, and hire Little Schotty, I'm so glad we went with an unproven HC with seemingly limitless upside and integrity rather than one with a documented track record of mediocrity and obvious control issue overreactions.
 
I agree with most of you guys. I was hoping for Fisher, but after what has transpired, especially his hiring of Snotty, I am glad things worked out the way they did. Philbin has a lot to prove, but everything just feel "right". A fresh start means unlimited optimism. I am truly hopeful that we have finally turned the corner as a franchise.
We need to wrestle control of the division back from New England. Miami on top is the natural order of things.

Right now, that's all we have, we have no history of his being a head coach in the NFL..and since we really didn't know anything about him until now..it's good to see he's so respected, maybe there's something to him that might ignite this team....we'll find out about the x's and O's in a couple months..

just so you know - here in the states, every city (or suburb) has drugs, guns, clubs, women, strippers, and cars. players will get into trouble anyplace. i think we already have a high character team (unlike clubs like the jets) and they will buy in with wins.
